What we're about
This is a Meetup Group for those interested in exploring the teachings of the American Buddhist nun Pema Chodron. Come join like-minded students in a guided exploration of the spiritual path taught by Pema in her many books and seminars. So far we have had book discussion classes on "When Things Fall Apart" and "The Places That Scare You." We have also worked with a video seminar from 1999 called "Knowing the Nature of Fear."
Meet-ups have been held in public spaces in Amherst such as the Jones Library as well as in private homes. Some prefer meeting in public spaces, others find them cold and uncomfortable. The meetings in private homes tend to be cozier and more flexible. We usually meet on weekday evenings but during the winter months we will have some Sunday afternoon offerings. Feel free to voice your preference.
In upcoming sessions we will be exploring Lojong practice, tonglen, getting unstuck and the 4 Immeasurables.
The group is led by a long-time Buddhist practitioner and meditation instructor who worked and studied for many years with Pema Chodron and her teacher Chogyam Trngpa, Rinpoche.
The group is open to all regardless of experience.
