Have you recently sent a child off to college (or coming soon)? Are you feeling a strange void? Wondering what to do with your free time? The Peninsula Recent Empty Nesters are a group of friendly, dynamic adults who enjoy a wide variety of activities now that our kids have moved out and we have more free time. While socializing, it's easy to discuss the challenges and joys of parenting a college student and share insights learned along the way. Come celebrate or commiserate this exciting new chapter with us.
Some of our past events include: potlucks in members' homes; wine tasting and picnic in Napa; music in the park; hike to a local winery; cooking together in a member's home and private jazz concert. We encourage all members to suggest new events and guest host them.
We are currently recruiting more members, especially dad nesters to balance out the ratio of male to female members. Singles and couples are welcome. I hope to see you at an upcoming event.
Please join us for an engaging discussion of The Guardian which focuses on the wrongful conviction of a black man for the murder of a white lawyer 22 years ago.
Summary: In the small north Florida town of Seabrook, a young lawyer named Keith Russo was shot dead at his desk as he worked late one night. The killer left no clues behind. There were no witnesses, no real suspects, no one with a motive. The police soon settled on Quincy Miller, a young black man who was once a client of Russo's.
Quincy was framed, convicted, and sent to prison for life. For nearly twenty years he languished in prison with no lawyer, no advocate on the outside. Then he wrote to Guardian Ministries, a small innocence group.
Guardian handles only a few innocence cases at a time, and only has one investigator. Powerful, ruthless people murdered Keith Russo and they do not want Quincy Miller exonerated.
This event will be held via zoom. Zoom details will be sent to attendees closer to the event.
* Rescheduled from 3/20 *
The Empty Nesters have supported StarVista, a San Carlos-based non-profit, for five years. Our previous events have included Christmas toy drives and a food and wine-tasting benefit. I hope to see you at their Starting Line Breakfast for a presentation of their counseling, crisis and housing programs.
