• Pre PCM September meetup
Talk 1: Nelson: c-tools & PDI: two way communication At Ubiquis we use Pentaho in our consulting projects with our clients, but also internally for our own BI needs. In this talk we’ll show how we integrate a metadata driven ETL, extracting data from a web API in JSON and parsing it with Metadata Injection, and a C-tools dashboard to view and edit the data, simplifying our admin processes. Talk 2: Diethard Steiner - The Sankey visualisation using the VizAPI and the amazing power this gives Pentaho Viz Api is the glue between your automated data integration processes and front end visualisation. It acts as an abstraction layer, letting you choose any modern visualisation library to link up to your data feeds. This is a very compelling offer! The talk will showcase a practical implementation using the tremendously popular d3js charting library. Talk 3: Dan Keeley - 5 minute overview of PCM! Please register at skillsmatter as well otherwise entry could be denied! https://skillsmatter.com/meetups/11199-pentaho-london-user-group-september

  • PLUGs Return - The Phoenix rises
Michele Mor ============ After a degree in sociology, moved to UK and have been working as data analyst. Extensive experience in data preparation and analysis in addition to installation and management of marketing solutions. Have been using pentaho for at least the past 5 years mainly for internal projects within the company. Recently joined Bissol Consulting. Synopsis: One of the highly anticipated announcements at November’s International Pentaho User Meeting was the official release of the PDI Git plugin, which finally allows you to tightly couple PDI development with your version control system via an easy to use GUI. Michele will show you how to install the Git plugin, how to connect to your git repository from within Spoon (PDI’s GUI), how to commit files and how to visually resolve merge conflicts. David Hill ========== David has worked in the Business Analytics and data Integration space for nearly 20 years. He worked on numerous data warehouse and data lake implementations, firstly as a member of the global management information team at Allied Domecq, then latterly as a Sales Engineer at Cognos, IBM, Oracle and now Pentaho. At Pentaho he is a Technical Account Manager in the UK Pre Sales team covering all sectors but primarily Financial Services. Synopsis: Pentaho has created a demo that shows how you can take advantage of your data and use machine learning algorithms to make predictive analytics deliver value to your company. In this demo we are looking at London's air quality as an example of how you can fully utilize big data sources. Air quality monitoring and analysis is a crucial procedure for city councils. Air pollution causes 40,000 early deaths a year in the UK. 9,000 of these occur in London. This demonstration uses open data provided by King’s College London to analyse current and historical air quality across London. Once this data has been collected we can train a machine learning model to predict pollutant levels 12 hours in advance and manage the training, testing and automate the updating of the model on the Pentaho platform

  • October 2016 #PLUG #BigDataWeek London Tie-up
A #BigData #Pentaho special! Please don't forget to register at skillsmatter too - this will ease entry - especially as it will be a VERY busy evening this week with all the other groups. https://skillsmatter.com/meetups/8154-pentaho-london-usergroup Talks start around 6.30, feel free to get there a little earlier and grab a beer at the bar first. Agenda: Talk 1 - Matt Casters, founder of Kettle will be showing off the latest stuff from the Kettle community (which is huge by the way!) as well as a spark roundup. Talk 2 - Wael Elrifai - IoT: From Data to Information; from Information to Knowledge Industry 4.0 and the Internet of Things are certainly getting a lot of “airtime” lately. Wael Elrifai will be discussing our own work on building a predictive maintenance system for Hitachi Rail using “Big Data” eco-system elements including Pentaho, Hadoop, and Spark/MLlib. I’m excited to share and debate concepts, processes, and ideas about how best to prototype such systems, and ways of collaborating between data engineering/integration/machine learning teams. We may not have time to go into the mathematics, but I hope we can start a good conversation about collaboration in this vacuum between data engineering and data science. Talk 3 - Nelson Sousa / Miguel Cunhal - Data modelling in hadoop - A preview of a more indepth talk to be seen at PCM16. Talk 4 - Dan Keeley - Live lightning talk preview of PDI and Kafka Afterwards we'll continue the discussions in the Red Lion over the road.

  • Bigdata Devops and Processing in Pentaho
So, time for a change. This time we head to the head office of Canonical from 7pm for refreshments and a couple of talks. Firstly Tom Barber, founder of Saiku and Analytical labs will be presenting: Big Data DevOps and Processing - Learn how to deploy a multi node Apache Hadoop stack in minutes, combined with the power of Pentaho Data Integration to enhance the processing capabilities and flexibility of your big data stack. Add in Reporting and Analytics and you have an fully managed, big data analytic platform at the click of a (few) buttons and no lines of code! Secondly - Luis Silva from Ubiquis will be presenting real time data with C-Tools and PDI - The UEFA Euro 2016 (TM) Using PDI we're going to explore how a real time data api such as one of the many that feed sports results can be used to provide a C-tools dashboard with information to perform real time data analysis. In this particular application we took the score of a match on any given time and compared it with previous matches in which the same team was leading or trailing by the same number of goals at the same minute.
