Box Hill and Surrey Hills (6.5 miles)

Box Hill & Westhumble Train Station - Southern Railway

Join us for this scenic walk in the Surrey Hills, walking up to the highest point in the North Downs, crossing the River Mole and through open countryside and woodland. There are steep climbs on this walk, you must have a reasonable level of fitness. This is a 6.5 mile walk, which will take approximate 3 hours. (We suggest not making another appointment close to our end time as it is approximate). We’ll stop at a cafe/pub at the end for refreshments. This is a circular walk, we’ll meet and end at Box Hill and Westhumble station. There are direct trains from Victoria and Waterloo to Box Hill. Please dress appropriately for the weather and wear sturdy footwear. Gorse cordial - foraging with campfire

Enjoy the beauty of Gorse in full bloom, with it's delicate scent and golden flowers bringing in colour and nector during the winter months. Relax and unwind with some time around the campfire, bring a packed lunch or any snacks. We'll learn how to identify this plant and about it's beneficial properties. We'll forage it's flowers to make a cordial/syrup over the fire. Walking from Thornton Heath to Mitcham Common, we'll enjoy time around the fire to welcome in the spring. Mitcham Common is a mixed habitat of grassland, heathland, Woodland and ponds and is home to many species rare in London. 10.30am - 2.30pm (approx) Saturday 30th March 2019 FREE FOR MEMBERS Meet and end: Therapia Lane tram stop (CR0 4UY) Distance and time: This walk is less than 5 miles. Enjoy a spring walk through open countryside in the northern fringes of London. Our path will take us through Monken Hadley Common and Trent Country Park, a 413 acre gem of woodland, meadows, brooks and lakes. We’ll follow the London Loop for part of this walk.
