An Evening of Leather At The New Cavendish Club

!!!!!!!!THIS EVENT IS NOW SOLD OUT !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Leather notes in perfume have always had an ardent group of admirers, but how well do you know the genre?  We'll map out the geography of leather fragrances from the meaty to the haughty.

Can your nose tell the difference between a cult classic and an arriviste?   Do you know what Chanel No. 5 and Cuir de Russie have in common?

I'll be leading a guided smell from a carefully chosen selection. We'll also be having a go at scenting some leather ourselves.

Bring along any leather scents you have at home and we'll take a whiff of those too.

As usual, there will be some samples to take home at the end.

I came along to this even though I didn't think I cared for leather as a fragrance category. And I probably still don't particularly, with a few notable exceptions, but it was a useful way of broadening my knowledge in this area and confirming what I thought I knew. Plus I always knew it would be a lively fun event in any event, and that I would meet some familiar faces again. Informative and good craic would be my assessment, though we were a livelier bunch than last time - to the point of "rumbustious" - maybe the theme attracted a more feisty crowd!

A fascinating history of this style of perfume in the company of a group of interesting and charming people. Excellent!

I was impressed to see and to be able to sniff 30 or so varieties of Leather fragrances all carefully arranged and thoughtfully grouped together on that white marble mantelpiece. Thanks to everyone involved for the efforts done on research and sourcing. It was also lovely to see some new faces of Perfume lovers and to listen to their ideas, discoveries and experiences. Liz’s small presentation was quite informative and very ‘’birchy-tarish-smoky’’. All in all it was very enjoyable meet-up with wonderful surprises and gifts to take away!

The second meeting - this time with a theme around 'one' note - leather.
With around 40 leather scents to try - on paper and, if you liked it enough, on skin - and a number of perfumers with samples of raw ingredients it became obvious there were a number of notes involved and a myriad of ways to use them. I'm still not a leather perfumes convert, but a few were new and interesting.
Everyone seemed to enjoying themselves. I chatted with a number of regulars and newcomers and learnt a bit more. Three hours passed very quickly.
Basenotes held their 2012 awards and all the perfumes involved were also available to try.

What a great evening! I love leather but I also loved how you mixed it up a little and introduced the winners of the Basenotes awards for 2012. Very interesting and Lila definitely knows perfume! Thanks for a great night! x

I didn't know much about leather perfumes before this event but I feel like I've learned a great deal now and have found some leather perfumes to love! A great event!

An Evening of Leather was my first foray into this type of Meetup event. As a complete perfume novice (knowing only I like some scents and not others but wish to learn more), it was a little overwhelming as the other members seem to 'be in the trade'. The session was very interactive. I learnt about the origins of leather scents and very much enjoyed listening to Lila. She was fantastic! I also learnt I don't like leather scents very much at all. Surprise, surprise - I thought there wasn't much I don't like. the session could be improved by brief introductions at the beginning so that novices can identify and ask the experts the appropriate questions. All in all, a very enjoyable meeting filled with extremely knowledgable people and great guest speakers.
