Build a worm composting box.

Vermiculture has fantastic results in the garden. Worm poop that has lots of egg shell and coffee grounds makes crops grow healthy and huge. Current prices for rough cut dog ear fence slats allows for a simple light weight box that can be made in under 2 hours. Suggested donation $60 no lid/$75 hinged lid for materials costs.

Would like to drop by to check this out as this would be a great source of natural fertilizer for our gardens. I already have a worm bin started but willing to see how to build one in a different way.

James: I'm just coming for the Vermiculture info. I have a Chop Saw I can bring, If you still need one.

Yes indeed. My circle saw is old and wobbly. I could use some straight cuts for a change.

Okay, it took 9 picket boards but one broke on me so have 10 ready.
    (10) 5/8in x 5 1/2in x 6 foot - dog ear wood fence pickets cut to 3'
    (1) 2 x 2 x 6 foot - #1 Pressure treated bottom brace
    (1) 1 lb. box #6 x 2in - Primeguard exterior screws
    (1) 2 x 4 x 8 foot - #1 PT corners cut to 4-24" pieces

    finished size is 37 1/4" x 36" x24" tall

    Matching lid took:
4 more pickets leaving one 3 foot piece extra
    4" hinge kit
    1 x 2 x 5 foot braces cut to 30" each
16 each #6 x 1 1/4" Primeguard exterior screws. I suggest a 1 lb box because they are just so handy a screw to have around.

I will publish plans on my blog after the workshop.

I've been wanting to have one of these for a while now. The sills are like liquid gold for your plants!

Can we bring our own materials in hopes to cut down on the high donation fee? If so, can you give us a list of the needed materials? I'm working with a tight college budget...thanks!

Absolutely, come by and learn the benefits of composting and simple wood construction techniques. Vermiculture will be explained and best practices displayed.
I suspect that most of the boxes will be made pre-fab for transport and easy screw together at home.

Is it ok to show up to listen about earthworms and not to build the box ? My bio says most of it ...

Thanks James. I really appreciate that. I'm waiting for the owner to change the starter. Once that's done, the front end loader is next. I hope he gets it done soon!

I plan to make the box without the top. Sounds fun. I've been wanting to raise worms. See you in a week, Alice

Wish we could but we will be out of town for the holiday weekend.

I will need to purchase the materials ahead of time because my vehicle can only hold enough lumber for 2 boxes at a time. Please confirm RSVP or paypal an amount to [masked]. to be certain materials are on hand.
If anybody can bring a chop saw it will speed construction along measurably.
I will be writing up plans this weekend for DIY.
