Our Expert Panelists: * Aaron Tainter, AlphaLab * Cole Wolfson, AlphaLab Gear * Kenny Chen, Ascender * Kit Needham, Project Olympus Aaron Tainter Aaron is the Senior Program Manager of Innovation Works’ AlphaLab accelerator program. Aaron oversees the day-to-day operations and works closely with companies to help guide them through accelerated stages of development. Aaron spent over 5 years as an Associate at Meakem Becker Venture Capital, a Pittsburgh-based early stage VC firm. In this role Aaron served on the due diligence team where he analyzed startup companies across a variety of industry verticals and was a leader on the deal sourcing team where he built a national deal flow pipeline which led to a number of successful exits including Kiva Systems (acquired by Amazon), Shipwire (acquired by Ingram Micro), and HotPads (acquired by Zillow). He also recently served as Senior Manager for Bristol-Myers Squibb, a global biopharmaceutical company, where he led the strategy and implementation of a number of continuous improvement and internal consulting initiatives within the Research and Development organization. Aaron holds a BS/BA in Business Mgmt/Mkt from Eastern University and an MBA from Carnegie Mellon’s Tepper School of Business. Cole Wolfson Cole is the Senior Program Manager at AlphaLab Gear, PIttsburgh's nationally-ranked hardware accelerator. Cole oversees all aspects of the AlphaLab Gear program and provides tailored support, connections and resources to participating companies. Cole is also a founder and co-owner of Petagogy, a brick-and-mortar natural pet retail chain, where he led consumer marketing efforts, managed distribution channels, and handled all financial modeling, projections and accounting functions. He has bootstrapped Petagogy from nothing to a three-store operation that is regularly voted the top pet retail brand in the region by a number of media outlets. Prior to joining AlphaLab Gear, Cole was the Business Developer Manager for Innovation Works, where he raised funding from companies, foundations and other sources. Prior to that, Cole worked in business development for an international development non-profit. Cole has an MBA from the Katz Graduate School of Business at the University of Pittsburgh and a BA in Anthropology from the University of Maryland. Jenny Sharpe Jenny is the Program Director at Ascender in East Liberty. As Program Director, Jenny crafted Ascender’s Starters and Builders Series that focuses on improving the entrepreneurial literacy of the community. Now in it’s third year, the series has featured over 40 speakers and drawn 1,200 attendees. Jenny also organizes Ascender’s annual Bootcamp program and oversees monthly bonding activities for the membership. While at Ascender, Jenny has been instrumental in producing the annual Thrival Festival, an event that collides emerging technology with humans and creativity over multiple days of innovation programing and an outdoor music festival. Prior to Ascender, Jenny founded two businesses in college and was a semifinalist for the International Hult Prize. Jenny holds a BA in Environmental Studies and Political Science with minors in Entrepreneurship and African Studies from the University of Wisconsin.
