What we're about

Everyone has a story. Do you want to write your story? Do you want a creative outlet? Do you want to be part of a supportive writing community? Well, then come join us and help build a unique, helpful, encouraging writing group. We can workshop your writings and read your work and give you insights and comments to help you as you create your manuscript.

We will meet every three weeks or so and workshop any piece writers submit to the group.

We will also do writing exercises to create a Memory Bank of stories, which we will continue to build over the next months and hopefully at the yearend, we can produce a book, a collection of several stories we have written, that we can gift to family and friends for the holidays.

While a contributing writer for Asian Pages, I published nearly 30 short stories that, after further development, evolved into my memoir manuscript, Translating Squiggly Lines. An excerpt was published in the anthology, Unclaimed Baggage in 2013. I have led memoir workshops in Boston, MA and taught a memoir creative writing course as an adjunct instructor for Blue Ridge Community College in Weyers Cave, VA. I really enjoy working with writers on their stories and wanted to build a writers community here in Philly to do the same.

Fun, Creative Outlet - Start Writing Your Story Today!

1. Start with a writing exercise warm-up. 2. We will workshop writings members submit. For short pieces (less than 1000 words), you can bring to the meetup. For longer pieces, please send it to me a week before the meetup and I will forward to the members signed up for the meetup so they can read and bring their comments to share. 3. Also in this session, we will build our Memory Bank. In late Oct, we will select stories from our Memory Bank to compile in an anthology of the group's Short Memoir Stories and publish in holiday gift books for friends and family. At this meetup, we will write about the Memory Bank topic: First Day of School (could be kindergarten, high school, college, etc) Afterwards, anyone who wishes, can share their work with the group. Be sure to bring something to write with!
