good find. I might have cropped out the sunny area on left. I always ask 'what is the subject of the image' and then get rid of the distractions. Just my two cents.

You're probably right. I tried out a lot of different crops before posting this one. This is kind of static compositionally, which I'm not happy with. But I wanted the feeling of a cool, dark, place in the midst of the bright, hot, day-- with the feeling of discovery of this broken mural glowing like a window into some mysterious place. The dim courtyard behind it is mysterious but visible when you look there-- but fairly prosaic. So where is this other world that was so hopefully built into the "window" of the now crumbling mosaic? Maybe kind of a lot to hope to convey in one photo?

good points, but I think prioritizing is important. The eyes are always going to go to the bright area so that is a given. I would still crop out the left side. There is still sunlight above for contrast. I would lighten the shadows a bit on the right. Try that and post another version. Again, art is art. But you want to lead the viewers eyes. I find the left sun too distracting. Just my two cents.

Thanks, Mike, I'll try that! And I wasn't sure if it would be okay to post a second one, so that's good to know, too. (Just not, I'd guess, a good thing to post a long series of them? I may post several on my flickr page... Will send you an invite :~)
