Boo! A SCARY Tour and a TRIUMPHant Dinner

  • Oct 24, 2008 · 7:00 PM
  • This location is shown only to members

"Be afraid. Be very afraid."
- The Fly (1986)

The Witching Hour approaches my friends, and we must prepare by having the bejesus scared out of us.

Philadelphia is known far and wide for cheesesteaks, Ben Franklin, Rocky, and an experiment that rendered the US destroyer escort USS Eldridge invisible (ooh, scary!). But did you know that according to Philadelphia is the FOURTH most haunted city in America? This is your chance to find out why. Mwahahahaha....!

"Do you like scary movies?"
– Scream (1996)

Dinner will be first, at 7:00PM at the Triumph Brewing Company at 121 Chestnut Street. While we enjoy delicious microbrew beers and fine American cuisine, come prepared to share your opinion on "the scariest movie ever." With only one week to go before Halloween, we could all use suggestions of scary movies to watch.

"The devil's voice is sweet to hear."
-Stephen King

Following dinner, we will go on the Spirits of '76 Ghost Tour. The tour visits more than 15 scary sites where a guide will tell us tales of Philadelphia's haunted facts and folklore. Join us then, if you dare...

1. Dinner at Triumph brewing Company at 7:00PM.
Come prepared with an appetite, thirst, and your choice for "scariest movie ever." 2. The Spirits of '76 Ghost Tour at 9:30PM -- Get your tickets online here: WE WILL MEET FOR THE TOUR AT 9:15.
The tour meets at Così Restaurant at 325 Chestnut Street (corner of 4th & Chestnut Streets).

REMEMBER: Tickets are "on your own." Get them in advance from the Spirits of 76 Ghost Tour Website:

RSVPing IS FOR THE DINNER ONLY. You're welcome to join us for the tour regardless of whether or not you can attend dinner. Likewise, PLEASE RSVP "NO" IF YOU'LL ONLY BE COMING FOR THE TOUR (NOT DINNER).

Also, the dinner will probably fill up fast. So if you'd like to attend, but the event is full, reserve your ticket for the Spirit of '76 Tour anyway.

This way, if spots open up for the dinner in the last day or two before the event (and they almost always do), you can jump in, RSVP "yes" and join us for the dinner and the tour. Conversely, if the dinner is completely full RSVP-wise, you can still join us for just the tour.

Usual rules apply...

Three quick things you need to know:
1) Make sure you RSVP right away since our reservation is limited to 15 people.
2) To help defray the costs of the website, $1 will be added to your bill at the restaurant. Small price to pay for great food and great company!
3) If you happen to arrive at the restaurant before I do, the reservation is in my name (Avish).

RSVP & Waitlisting
One final note ... Please stay true to your RSVP. If you don't think you can make it make it, please change your RSVP, so others can join in the fun. (Likewise, if you want to participate in the event, but it's already filled up; RSVP "NO" and put "Waitlist me" in the response section. I'll contact you if any spaces open up.)

Dinner was great (food was excellent), tour as ok - interesting, but not scary or super engaging. As usual, great people made the whole evening fun!

We had a great time. I apologize for getting to the meetup late. Unfortunately, traffic dictated our arrival so we passed on the tour. Friendly group of people and I look forward to future meetups.

"You see this meal on the table? It could've been made with spices that begin with the same letter as foods that Alexander Hamilton might have eaten. People say ... he often ate when he was hungry. And he could be a ghost ... somewhere ... right now. Please follow me."
