This is a group for people who want to read and discuss important works in philosophy/anthropology/history. I'm open to anything for this group, but I generally prefer works of intellectual history as a means to think about the methodological validity of different critical-theory models rather than reading straight theory. (I have some background in medieval thought, but am no expert and am open to any period.) But straight theory or philosophy would be fun too! Once we have a few members we can talk about what book or article we should start with, and we can start having weekly or biweekly meetups in my home. I'm more interested in ideas than in trudging through a book if we end up finding it slow-moving and tedious, so another option would be to independently look into a topic, say, "structuralism" or "the labor theory of value", and then discuss it. (We could even do read-alouds together bc I def don't want this to become a burdensome homework kind of experience.) I am not an academic or any kind of expert on these topics (I am a stay-at-home mother). I think this group will work well with varying degrees of expertise and experience, but I definitely do not intend this to be a spirituality/mindfulness/self-improvement type of group.
