We will hike the Appalachian Trail through the state of Maryland, all 41 miles. We will hike from north to south, starting at the Mason-Dixon Line and ending in Harpers Ferry, West Virginia. I hope to do this hike without hiring a shuttle driver so two cars is preferred. Here is the hike itinerary:
Saturday, April 27 - We will rendezvous in Harpers Ferry by mid-afternoon. We will leave a car here and drive to Pen-Mar County Park where we will start our hike by hiking north about a mile to Falls Creek Bridge and camp for the night.
Sunday, April 28 - We will hike 10.7 miles to Ensign Cowall Shelter, climbing up to High Rock, the site of an old hang-gliding platform.
Monday, April 29- We will hike 13.7 miles to Dahlgren Backpackers Campground. There is a bathhouse with hot showers and flush toilets.
Tuesday, April 30 - We will hike 10.9 miles to Ed Garvey Shelter.
Wednesday, May 1 - We will hike 6.3 miles to Harpers Ferry.
Wednesday will be a short hike and we will have choices. I prefer to have a nice celebratory lunch, pick up the cars, and head home. But there is also the option to explore Harpers Ferry and stay overnight in a nearby hostel.
Come and join me on the AT this spring.
