Faith Lutheran Church

$1.00

Sacred Harp is a style of full-voiced a cappella singing using shaped notes that represent the different degrees of the musical scale. The "sacred harp" is the human voice; the book of the same name has been published continuously since 1844, with a new edition every few decades. Many of the texts are by Isaac Watts, Charles Wesley, and other famous hymn writers. Everyone is invited to join in what is traditionally a participatory and unrehearsed type of singing without an audience. Loaner books will be available, and the first half hour of the session will be spent going over basics and working on one voice part at a time. Come experience a unique American musical tradition!
