Wayne Powers is a screenwriter/producer/director. Films he has written include the hits The Italian Job and Deep Blue Sea. His television credits include writing and directing the Showtime Mini-Series Out of Order, starring Eric Stoltz, Felicity Huffman, William Macy and Peter Bogdonovich. He’s also written pilots for three networks and began his career writing-producing TV movies and series. He produced-directed a documentary for Showtime that was also featured on Oprah (and yes, she is nice).
While writing a pilot, he was a professor at the Red Sea Institute for Cinematic Arts, which is in Jordan. His graduate students were from throughout the Middle East. He has also lectured at the Moscow Film School. He is currently writing an epic for a Russian director that will be his first English-language film.
In his four-hour lecture he will get into the nuts and bolts of feature writing, including premise, plot goals, theme goals, protagonists, theme and plot antagonists, structure, sequences, etc. These are subjects he learned from gifted teachers at USC Film School and expanded upon during his two-decades-plus as a nonstop professional writer. There will be clips to illustrate these topics as well as student participation, so be prepared to listen and talk. The course is designed for all levels of writers.
We will have a mixer after the event.
