This meetup group was created for 3 reasons

  1.  Teach and promote Tai Chi Chuan (Taijiquan)
  2.  Provide a location for Tai Chi practitioners to enhance their push hands skills
  3.  Reach out to those interested in learning self-protection (standing & ground)

Tai Chi Classes…

Tai Chi can be practiced as slow methodical movements, with a focus on balance, structure and deep breathing. It can also be practice with a combination of slow and explosive (fa jin) movements to simulate martial applications. This is what makes tai chi a versatile art to be practice for health and/or martial benefits by anyone regardless of age or physical ability.

The Chen style Taijiquan classes offered at the Phoenix Martial Arts Center is clear and systematic. This allows each student to progress at their own pace and ensures that they reach their own personal goals. Best of all, the classes are challenging and fun!

Push Hands Meetup...

This is an informal, non-competitive gathering of people interested in practicing push hands. This meetup is open to anyone who practice internal styles whether a novice or an advanced practitioner. Through the practice of push hands one can dramatically develop energies such as listening (ting), understanding (dong), neutralizing (hua) and issuing (fa). If you are interested in honing your skills, would like exposure pushing with a variety of people, or are new to taiji (tai chi) push hands, you are all welcomed to join us.

Self-Protection System...

Training in self-protection is mainly geared for non-martial artists who desire reasonable skill in defending against an assault without having to devote themselves to many years of martial training. It does not discriminate against the non-athletic, non-martial, smaller or weaker person. Size and strength, which can be assets, are not a primary in this training. Instead the focus is on the psychological and physical aspects of an attack, and the proper ways of dealing with it. This system is not for people seeking to learn to fight. This training offers ways for the non-combatant to defend himself or herself enough to escape an assailant.
