Hornsby Bend Bird Observatory

http://hornsbybend.or...

Several ponds for water birds, as well as trails in the woods around the Colorado river. Birds are in migration season right now so they are just passing through. According to their site - November is suppose to be a peak time as birds are migrating through. Up to 3000 birds are seen daily.

Park is free admission and opens at dawn.

If you have not been here before. It's best to park and walk around the ponds. Telephotos and tripods are encouraged. But if you have the patience you can sit by the shore and capture all kinds of activity. Early morning and late afternoon are usually the best times.

This was my first outing with the Photographers Adventure Group and I am using a new camera that I am still learning A LOT about. It was great to station myself near other, more advanced photographers and glean new information from them or see their photos, from their perspective. Definitely something I would do again.

Not many birds. Well, lots of ducks. It was still a great day to meet new people, photograph some butterflies and spiders, and go for a hike.

I know it is suppose to rain on and off on Sunday 30% chance right now. I still plan on being there, at 7:00 am (sunrise) best time to catch the birds.

I will wait about 15 minutes, if you are running late...after entering main gate, go straight, you will see to roads, take the left one, drive slowly, narrow one lane road around the ponds. The right takes you to the water treatment yard.

    See you in the morning
