Tour and photograph the Chazen art museum at UW

The Energizers meetup group is meeting to view the Offering of Angels exhibit on loan from the Uffizi Gallery in Florence, Italy. They are meeting at 2:00, with brunch or coffee before or after. The organizer said we could join them. Let's meet at 2pm in the main lobby of the first floor.

Photos aren't allowed of the Offering of Angels exhibit but we could spend 15 minutes or so viewing it with the Energizers and then walk around the Chazen taking photos of the other exhibits. Photos are allowed everywhere else without flash or mono/tripods. Parking is in the nearby Lake St ramps.

Didi, you could have called my cell but I hope you enjoyed the Energizers. Wally, sorry if my parking post scared you away. The Lake St ramp was crowded but there were some open spaces. And it only cost me $2.50 for two hours.

I said I was going to attend but was "scared off" by the comment that parking might be difficult because of UW bb. game; lol. sorry.

Sorry arrived later - Found Energizers - continued on to look for the group but obviously no luck ; (

Arthur, Dan, and I were the only ones attended. We enjoyed but were surprised so many of you didn't attend. Or did you walk with the Energizers?

There is a UW Men's basketball game in the Kohl center Sunday at 1pm. I don't know if that will make parking in the Lake St and Frances St ramps difficult, or if they charge the $5 special event rate. I hope not.

Let's meet at 2pm in the main lobby of the first floor. I'm thinking it will probably be better to walk around and take photos as our own group without the Energizers. But we can at least meet them at 2pm to say Hi and take a look at the Offering of Angels on the 1st floor. The permanent collections where photos are allowed are on the 3rd and 4th floors so that is where we can spend most our time. I need to leave at 3pm but you can stay as long as you want. Looks like a rainy day Sunday so a good Museum day. See you then!

Hi, there are 10 of us signed up and 38 from Energizers. I figure we can meet with the Energizers at 2pm and tour the Offering of Angels for 15 minutes or so. Then walk around the other exhibits on the other floors and take photos for an hour or so with the Energizers or as our own group. Afterwards the energizers may go get coffee somewhere but I don't plan to.
Remember, photos aren't allowed in the Offering of Angels and British Watercolors. Flash and mono/tripods aren't allowed anywhere. They have lockers if you need storage for any bags, etc. You need 25 cents (one quarter) to use the locker but you get it back so it's free. Here is parking info for the Lake St ramp:

Here is the email reply from Chazen. We can photograph most places, as we thought: "Basically photos are fine anywhere, without flash or mono/tripods. The only exception is in temporary exhibitions (currently the Offering of Angels, and British Watercolors), and loaned material (the furniture on the mezzanine in the Elvehjem Building). The museum does not own these art works and unfortunately the lenders have not granted permission for photography."

I spoke with my friend this morning regarding photography at the Chazen. He said "It depends who you ask." Generally works owned by the museum can be photographed. No flash. No tripods. Best advice is to ask before shooting.

Thanks for the info. I will email Chazen and get their policy.

I have a couple scheduling conflicts on the 11th but am hoping to join you on this outing. BTW, I had quite a time of trying to take pictures in Chazen last year while working on a class assignment. I had a tripod and had to speak to three people before I was grudgingly allowed to shoot. I believe their policy is personal/non-commercial use, no tripods, no flash, no photography of the current revolving exhibit (at the time it was the Andy Warhol polaroid series). I am unable to locate the photography/video rules on the Chazen website - dunno if monopods are permitted. So yeah, probably a good idea to get a copy of their policy.

I'm fairly sure the policy is photos can be taken anywhere in the Chazen except touring exhibits. I've taken photos in most of the Chazen.

A friend of mine is a security guard at the Chazen. Do you want me to obtain the photography policy for the museum?
