Whether natural or in the studio light is the heart of every fine photograph.
This group is for photographers that want to study light and master it to create beautiful photographs. Learn to see the way the camera sees. Learn to control light, to bend it and mold it to create the image you want. We will be meeting in a great studio in N. Hollywood. Some of our sessions will explore light in the studio with the lighting equipment provided and some will be out in the natural world. Come and learn to love the light!
What makes this photography Meetup group different from the others?
When you search for photography Meetup groups in So. CA you will be amazed to see how many there are to choose from. How to choose? What makes this Meetup group different is that as you research you will see that most of the other groups are merely photo shoots with no organized instruction to help you improve your photography skills. While photo shoots are great and we do some of them as well what I am doing is very different and much more beneficial to you.
Let me start by a little background information on who I am and what my skills are. I have been a commercial photographer for 45 years. But just being a working photographer does not guarantee that I can provide valuable instruction to you. In addition to that experience I have also taught lighting and lighting techniques for 40 years. I have lectured nationally and taught lighting at Art Center in Pasadena, Otis Art Institute, UC Santa Cruz, and more. I have also taught my own workshops for 40 years.
When I started my three Meetup groups, the others being Huntington Beach Photography, Photography and the Love of the Landscape, I did not want to create just more photo shoot groups where a bunch of photographers get together and shoot a bunch of "models" from Model Mayhem (usually dressed in bikinis or less). Based on my experience I felt that I had more to offer. So I established my Meetups to actually TEACH photography skills to my members.
This idea, I feel, provides my members with something of value that they simply do not get in the other photography Meetups. It is a lot of work for me to plan and execute these seminars and workshops but my members seem to appreciate what I offer. If there is a charge for a Meetup (which there often is) it is very reasonable based on other similar educational activities that I have researched. I also offer many learning activities and videos that are free to my members.
So, I hope that you will join us and I welcome your suggestions as to what you would like to see offered in this Meetup!
