OK, I have set up a live chat room on my site. It is available 24/7. You never know who will or will not be there. If this proves to be popular I will begin scheduling organized weekly chats on photographic topics. You can access the chat room at the link below. On that link there is a counter that indicates if anyone is in the room at that time. Initially I don't expect much activity but hopefully we can grow the room to a fun interactive experience. Enjoy!
MY CONCEPT: In the '90's America Online had a very active photography forum. It was sponsored by Kodak.
In that area they had a live chat room called "Daguerre's Chat" where I hosted a weekly chat on photography. It was very popular. In addition to the live scheduled chat the room was kept open 24/7 for anyone to drop by. It was great to jump into that "cyber cafe" any time to talk photography and socialize with other photographers who became your online friends. The community grew to evolve into real world events and I have many friends today that I first met on that forum.
I have been investigating the possibility of creating an online chat room for my Meetups. This would be a place where we could hold organized, weekly chats on specific topics or just open forum discussions. We could also use it alongside an online gallery to share our pictures and critiques.
My plan is to set this up providing there is enough interest in participation. Based on my presumption that I can utilize free software like possibly Tweet Chat there would be no charge for access to the chats.
