  • White Water Rafting in Pennsylvania - Columbus Day Weekend

    Sometimes you must experience a thing to "get it". White water rafting on the Youghiogheny River (or “Yough”, as it is popularly called - pronounced "Yok") in Ohiopyle, PA, is one of those things! Fully 20 miles of the Yough River runs through Ohiopyle State Park. It’s Pine Point’s fourth rafting trip and we are opening our invite to both well-seasoned rafters and newbies, as we're offering 2 two rafting options: OPTION 1: LOWER YOUGH (no experience necessary) This river section is a total blast! It involves Class 3 white water, which means fun waves and fast action is punctuated by easy meandering sections at regular water levels. First timers are welcome. The trip will cover 7.5 miles of the river including a lunch stop. Rafting on Sunday 10.13, 10:00AM.   • Labor Day Camping Shades and Turkey Run

    LAST CHANCE - We will be cancelling spots at 5:00pm Thursday 8/22. Please let us know (and pay) if you want to join us. Only 3 spots available. This is going to be a great weekend hiking in three spectacular areas: Turkey Run State Park, Shades State Park, and Pine Hill Nature Preserve. We will be camping at Shades SP. Shades has the same type of sandstone features as Turkey Run on a smaller scale but in a more natural, secluded location. Our campsites have showers and flush toilets nearby but no electricity. Each site holds up to 6 people, 2 tents, and 1 car. We will coordinate site assignments closer to the event, based on sign-up order. There is parking at the campground entrance for extra cars. Shades is about 3 hours from Chicago. The entrance fee of $9 per car per visit is also honored at Turkey Run. So you only pay $9 once. If you are looking for a ride or can give one, please post it in comments. We will provide a grilled dinner on Friday night and we’ll have a potluck Saturday night at the Hickory Shelter. Please bring a dish to pass. You are on your own for all meals, snacks and beverages. Hiking is optional and we will be leading the following hikes: Saturday morning at Shades. Beautiful sandstone cliffs overlooking Sugar Creek and numerous shady ravines provide the backdrop for your journey through this nature lover's paradise. Some of the trails are considered "Rugged" to "Very Rugged". Please be prepared for stairs, ladders, etc. We are planning an approximately 5-7 miles hike. Sunday morning at Turkey Run. Deep canyons in the shadows of sandstone cliffs & peaceful hemlock groves harbor some of the most ruggedly beautiful hiking trails in the state. Some of the Turkey Run trails are "Rugged" to "Very Rugged". Please be prepared for a 5-7 mile hike with some stairs, ladders, and ravines. Monday morning will be reserved for Pine Hills Nature Preserve for a 3 mile, 2 hour hike with lots of stairs and one extremely steep and narrow section. Don’t be afraid of heights.     AN AWESOME SUMMER GETAWAY CAMPING / BIKING WEEKEND 32nd Annual Kettle McBlain Camping / Biking Trip July 26-28. Join us for the 32nd!WOW! edition of Pine Point’s favorite and longest running summer trip. We will be at Benson’s Camping Resort on Long Lake near Dundee, Wisconsin, about 3 hours north of Chicago. N3845 WI-67, Campbellsport, WI 53010 Most people show up at the campground before dark Friday evening, because it’s just easier to put up a tent when you can see what you’re doing. !!!IMPORTANT NOTE!!! For those of you have been on this trip before, we will NOT be staying in our usual spot. The hilltop was hit by a tornado last summer and the hilltop is uninhabitable. We have campsites FF24-31 reserved just for us on the lower level. These sites are in the lower area to the left of the "Barn". Follow the road to the first left. We will be in the sites along the woods on the left. Biking is optional. We will have maps and trip sheets for 38-, 56-, and 76-mile routes for the main biking and/or skating events on Saturday. During the Saturday ride, we typically stop for lunch in the patio at Fudgies in Glenbeulah. The short and intermediate route riders typically overlap for lunch. If you don't plan on biking you can just hang out at the campsite, take a canoe for a ride, go for a hike on marked trails at Kettle Moraine State Forest, explore the other side of Long Lake, where there is a very nice beach. At the end of the ride, many of us also enjoy a well-earned ice cream cone at the Hamburger Haus in Dundee. But, save room for Saturday dinner. We will head to the Idlewile Inn, in Saint Cloud WI. Sunday can be a recovery day, more riding, hiking, canoeing, or ???     Come join Pine Point Ski Club for an evening picnic on the grass at Priztker Pavillion in Millenium Park as we enjoy the world famous Cellist Yo Yo Ma perform "The Complete Bach Cello Suites." Event host Mark Niewoehner I will arrive around 5 PM to secure a spot for our group. Look for me and the Pine Point banner.
