2@a time Toe up Socks workshop-Beginner & Beyond

  • Hi everyone,

This is the 5th year of this month long workshop  on two at a time toe up Socks!  This is meant to be an introduction to making a pair of socks using the 2 @ a time, Toe-up Method,  (One long circular needle or two shorter circular needles are used instead of double pointed needles and the socks are made at the same time -which means no 2nd sock syndrome!)

I encourage everyone who likes to make socks to attend!  We will focus on this method and I will provide links to blogs, patterns, and tutorials that I find helpful along the way. There are lots of different ways to make socks and I am no expert, but I enjoy supporting everyone in learning how to make 2@a time toe up Socks!

The workshop will run 5 weeks.  Please plan to attend as many weeks as possible.(if you're only able to make one or two weeks, please hold off and let someone who can commit to the series attend) It is best if you can commit at least 2 hours each meetup and then several hours of knitting during the week (depending on the scope of your project).  If you can't knit outside of the workshop than I would consider this a technique class and not a project based event.  To put this in perspective, traditional (sock weight on size 1 needles) Socks usually take me about 20-30 hours from Start to Finish.  There will be options for Sport weight Socks (knit on size 3-5) options.

    Materials

1- 24" to 40" circular needle in the size required for gauge
    or
2- 16" circular needles in the size required for gauge

400 yards of Sock DK yarn

(10-25% Nylon or Silk is recommended)

    or
Yardage required for pattern(if you've chosen one)

1st meetup:  Discuss our goals for the workshop

    • Project based?

    • What size yarn (Recommend bulkier yarn...trust me)

    • If you have yarn and needles you would like to use, bring them!) We may or may not cast on this first day. It's okay if we don't.  I will bring practice yarn and tools to get us started.

    • Here is a tutorial for getting started. Swatch + Measure= Math

2nd Meetup will focus on the Cast On (Judy's Magic Cast-on) and set up for the foot.

3rd Meetup will focus and the foot & heel (technique TBA)

4th Meetup with focus on the heel(technique TBA)

5th Meetup will focus on the finishing your socks and the Jenny's Surprising Stretchy bind off
