This is a ~monthly discussion group meant only for individuals who are actively engaged in creating artwork or aesthetics-driven projects. You might be a professional artist (like one of our two leaders) or a still-amateur part-timer (like the other leader) -- but as long as you're engaged daily in the ups & downs of the creative process, let's get together and talk about it!

So you might be a...
visual artist (painter, sculptor,...)
fiction writer or poet
game designer

...who's actively engaged with your artwork (we'll spend part of each meetup going around and describing our current projects or activities we're working on).

Sometimes the discussion will be carefully guided, and sometimes it will generally be modeled on principles of the "Socrates Cafe" format that has become popular in recent years ( and now used in a Pioneer Valley philosophy discussion meetup ( -- only here we'll limit it to aesthetics issues -- questions surrounding the nature of beauty: what is art?, can the "ugly" be beautiful?, what is creativity and what can block it?,.... We'll also talk about the creative personality and the artist's role in society, the difficulties of creating, etc.

So there will be no leader dominating the discussion; everyone can talk; there's no dominant aesthetics philosophy or politics... You can come with a question in mind to discuss, and we'll organically choose one or two to discuss each meetup.

We've been trying out different locations so far, looking for an ideal balance of quiet but stimulating atmosphere, whether at local eateries or a private home. Join us and introduce yourself here, and we'll see when we can get things going.-- M. & S.

Shaqe (pronounced "shacha") is our main co-leader. She's a professional visual artist and creativity researcher and coach (, and so she will occasionally mention professional workshop offerings for people who might be looking for more than our normal free Meetup sessions.

Mike is an unpublished novelist/sometimes playwright/former unpublished poet, and handles a lot of the Meetup website details here.
