I think part of it is the nature of early-stage start-ups.  Statistically most will never make a dime in profit, and the developers know this, which is why they are selective about which projects they take, just as any venture capitalist or angel investor would be.  Some "pitchers" don't even have a minimally viable prototype in place, and are asking for a lot of time in development work with very little skin in the game themselves.   The good developers can make good money doing projects for cash, so they only take equity when they feel their chances of a return are high.

I came to Alon's group as a pitcher with a viable prototype, over 300 registered users, and a handful of vested angel investors, and received multiple inquiries from interested developers and ultimately acquired our CTO through Alon's group.

The nature of the marketplace generally speaking is that the developers have the upper hand, unless you have lots of cash or an incredible product and secure competitive moat.  To be honest though, I saw a lot of ideas that weren't very compelling, and this could be part of the dilemma.

All,

I wanted to thank Alon for putting this concept together but also wanted to share some feedback I have heard and see if anyone else has had the same experience.

What I’m hearing about this meetup is that while it’s great in theory….very few developers go.  It’s lopsided toward the “pitchers”.  Developers are sought after and as we know the desirable girl or guy never goes to singles nights!   I think we should start a dialogue on this subject.  Do others feel this to be the case?

Thanks,

Dave

Hello entrepreneurs and developers!

I need your help finding a couple more presenters. I've still got two slots to fill for the June 26 meetup in Denver. If you know anyone that would be interested in pitching, please get them in touch with me.

If you are interested in pitching or have any questions, please feel free to email ([address removed]) or call [masked]).
