Journey to Italy (Newly restored)

Martin Scorsese calls this rarely-screened masterpiece by Roberto Rossellini one of his all-time favorites. Now hailed as a landmark film, it has an emotional transcendence and profound spirituality that was ahead of its time. It tells the story of a British couple (played by Ingrid Bergman and George Sanders) whose marriage starts declining while on a trip to Naples. This new restoration is essentially the English-language version, with Bergman and Sanders speaking their own dialogue. (Roberto Rossellini; Italy; 1954; 86 min)

Hi Melinda. This happened to me a couple of times too - don't get discourages. Once you meet Viviana, you'll know who to look for at the group events. I haven't made it yet to conversation at Biddle's yet, but if you can get there it will help you recognize some familiar faces for the next group outing. Hope to meet you soon, Karen

I'm new to the group. I rsvp'd and went to the movie, but I wasn't sure if there was a meeting place for the group. The movie. I can't decide if it's simplicity of what really happens in the day to day of marriage and things gone unsaid was brilliantly done or just so so. When she is on the sofa not sure what to do, that scene was pretty perfect at showing what happens when couples grow so far apart it's like they're starting over. So...brilliant or lacking? Not sure. Hope to meet everyone at another event.

Melinda, frist of all "congratulations" on making it to your first meetup. I would have loved to have met you but I am actually overseas and was not at the movie myself. As Karen said, between the sunday gatherings or lookins at the names/pics of the RSPV list, it will be easier for you to recognize the "gang" next time..They are usually the friendliest bunch in any place! :) (Plus, you might hear them chatting in Italian sometimes)>

Mi dispiace molto che non posso venire. Non sarò in Pittsburgh. Forse la prossima volta.
