"Istio": Software-oriented architecture patterns have rapidly spread throughout companies since the advent of SOAP in the early 2000s. Service simplicity and modularization have been a huge boon for developers and operators, however, it has also introduced new classes of problems. Teams now have to worry about managing an increasingly complex network of microservices. Systems comprised of multiple programming languages also face challenges with regards to performance, observability, and chained failure. Istio was introduced in 2017 to solve these problems based on production experiences from IBM, Google, and Lyft. This talk will introduce Istio's components and demonstrate its key features for polyglot observability, traffic management, and security.

"Continuous Development with Skaffold and Kubernetes": As a developer, I want to test my code in a production-like container runtime environment
so that I can have confidence my changes won’t break production.
I want to show you a new, Open Source tool from GCP called Skaffold. Skaffold helps you easily set up a local developer environment with your application running in a container on Kubernetes, updated automatically as you code. It’s pretty cool.
