Join us for our very first meeting! I'll give a quick overview of what the plan is for the next few weeks and we'll begin practicing public speaking with some initial exercises, drills, and TED Talk analysis - drawing from my experience in standup comedy and corporate public speaking.
My experience with public speaking comes from two very different worlds. The first is the corporate world - having started my career in a leadership program at Thermo Fisher Scientific, I had to give many presentations to senior executives (CFO, President of Finance, VPs, etc.) on the projects I'd been working on, leadership topics, etc. After finishing the leadership program, I started a career development podcast within my company and have since been invited to sites all across the country to present on the podcast and facilitate discussions with leadership. In the corporate world, I've been able to hone my ability to use public speaking as a method of informing others effectively and in an engaging way.
The second world I've learned from is the standup comedy world. I perform standup all around the city every night and it is in this context that I learned how to entertain others, something that is often missing in the corporate context.
My approach to public speaking combines the professional and comedic perspectives and allows me to not only inform others about a topic but also be highly entertaining in the process.
