Hello all,
I'm sorry to bother you all with this question, but I had a friend ask me to translate a recipe from La Jornada Latina for Mole Poblano.  In the recipe there are three types of peppers:  chile ancho, chile mulato and child pasillas.  Does anyone know the difference?

Hey Everyone,

Theres a wonderful Spanish-language film, El Secreto De Sus Ojos, at The Manor Theater in Squirrel Hill through (at least) Thursday. Below is a digest of The New Yorker write-up, as well as links to the full review there and elsewhere.

Ive already seen the movie but urge others to check it out.
Please note this IS NOT an official Spanish Language Meetup Group event (which is why it is entered on the calendar under Notes, not official Meetup events for which you will receive automatic e-mail reminders). Meetup organizers and other members may -- or may not -- be present. Rather, Im posting this to make you aware of some of the Spanish-language offerings in our community.

As always, any member can post a message on the meetup Message Board to coordinate outings with other interested members.

Hasta pronto,

"The Secret In Their Eyes" El Secreto De Sus Ojos
(Dir: Juan Jos Campanella, 2009. In Spanish with subtitles)
On the surface, the Oscar-winning foreign-language film for 2009 is a legal thriller, but its a powerfully and richly imagined genre-busting work that successfully combines the utmost in romanticism and the utmost in realism. In Buenos Aires, in 1974, a criminal-court investigator, Benjamn Espsito (Ricardo Darn); his antic partner, Pablo Sandoval (Guillermo Francella); and their cautious superior, Irene Menndez Hastings (Soledad Villamil), a judges assistant, investigate the murder of a young woman. The movie alternates between 1974 and the period, twenty-five years later, when Espsito tries to reconstruct the events on paper and conclude the investigation. The movies themes are obsessive love and the passing of wasted years. A few scenes come close (at first glance) to the overwrought kitsch of a telenovela. But then the writer-director, Juan Jos Campanella (working with the screenwriter and novelist Eduardo Sacheri), pulls us further into mysteries and passions; the movie presses forward with a rhapsodic urgency and flashes of violence and pungent humor. The Argentine legal system, as revealed here, will make you grateful for the somewhat haphazard and inefficient American version.
