Needs a location
This is a bike tour that highlights community green spaces from around Pittsburgh. There is a small fee for the tour, and the funds go towards helping maintain the spaces for years to come. There will also be a free event on the Larimer Village Green after the bike ride with food, activities, music and games.
You don't need to venture outside of the city to get your fix of green.
Neighborhood residents from the Hilltop to the Northside, Millvale to the East Liberty are using vacant land as a canvas for creative, green placemaking. On the bike tour we will be visiting a well-established community garden (and former sunflower site) in Millvale, a library garden in Knoxville, a recycled play yard in East Liberty (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=78tcCqcP_zg), art installations and a hop yard in Garfield and more. Each one of these stops will have a community host that will take you on a tour of space and explain the project's role in the revitalization of the neighborhood.
The long ride will be approximately 25 miles, complete with a nice hill climb or two. The shorter, flatter, family-friendly guided tour will also be available. After the bike ride, all are welcome to attend our community block party complete with food, beer, music and other activities back in Larimer that will go until 8pm.
Children under 18 must ride with an adult and are free.
