Startups Tax Forum

Pivotal Tribes are very pleased to invite you to our inaugural event “Startups Tax Forum” at Club Workspace's London Bridge location on Tuesday 5th March.

The event will start at 6:30pm with beer and tasty Indian snacks supplied by our friends at the Shoreditch Off Licence on Great Eastern Street. We will start the formal part at 7pm sharp with 30 minutes of presentations by our tax specialists followed by 30 minutes of questions from attendees and open discussion with our panelists. We aim to finish the tax forum part of the evening at about 8pm to leave enough time for general networking afterwards.

Our specialists include:

  • Michael Carter, an experienced entrepreneur, accountant, author ('Take the Plunge' and 'Its all Cobblers') and startup adviser;
  • Elaine Clark, founder of the award winning franchise; and
  • Jonathan Lea, a freelance corporate and commercial law solicitor and startup enthusiast who will also be chairing and facilitating the discussion.

Topics we will aim to cover during the evening are as follows:

  • Payroll, PAYE and National Insurance;
  • Share Schemes;
  • Business structuring;
  • SEIS and EIS tax reliefs;
  • VAT; and
  • Freelancers and IR35.

We want the forum to be as lively as possible with a high level of audience participation (including virtual involvement through #taxforum). If you have any burning questions that you want to put to our specialists (and audience) please let us know beforehand by email/message so that we know to pick you out of the crowd.

Please tell anyone you know who might be interested about the event and encourage them to sign up as there is capacity for 60 people in the space we have. Participants should make some great connections, get some valuable insight and knowledge and generally enjoy an entertaining evening at a great venue.

A small £10 charge, either paid before through or payable on the door in cash, will be levied to cover the cost of the event and the food and drink. Within this price all attendees will receive a copy of Michael Carter's excellent book 'Take the Plunge', a very useful guide and reference for startups.

We really hope you can join us!

    Obviously biased, but I found the discussion really useful in highlighting key tax issues startups should be aware of and how to structure and run your business accordingly.

    Hi Jonathan - could you perhaps remove the £10 mandatory payment via paypal on this event - I plan to make my £10 payment at the door on the day itself -- unless you pay now (via this website) meetup won't let us RSVP for the event.
