Exploring and challenging ourselves with classic and contemporary literature from around the world, we try to strike the right balance between enjoyment and literary education. (If you think literary education IS enjoyment, this is the right book group for you!) We are a diverse group meeting once a month on a Sunday afternoon for food, drink, and conversation focused on the book and ideas inspired by the book. Usually we meet in or near Plano in a member's home, occasionally further afield.

We are not a formal "great books" program. Members who attend the meetings choose the books two to four meetings in advance so there is plenty of time to read longer selections. Caterina or another member facilitates the discussion, sometimes preparing introductory material on the book's literary history or other significant aspects. We like to read passages aloud so we can really appreciate the author's use of language. Once in a long while we watch a film version of the book.

Members are invited and encouraged to read the book before the meeting so that they will be able to participate more fully in the discussion, but it's ok to attend whether or not you have finished the book. We like to choose books that cannot be "spoiled" by discussion before reading!

Peace and books!
