What we're about

We enjoy challenging ourselves with classic and contemporary international literature. We have lively discussions that focus on the book and the issues it raises, and through our discussions we become friends. We are a diverse group meeting once a month on a Sunday afternoon in various members' homes in the northern Dallas/suburban area.

We are not a formal "great books" program. Members who attend the meetings vote on the book selection two meetings in advance so there is plenty of time to read longer selections. Caterina or another member facilitates the discussion, sometimes preparing introductory material on the book's literary history or other significant aspects. We like to read passages aloud so we can really appreciate the author's use of language. Once in a long while we watch a film version of the book.

Members are invited and encouraged to read the book before the meeting so that they will be able to participate more fully in the discussion, but it's ok to attend whether or not you have finished the book. We like to choose books that cannot be "spoiled" by discussion before reading!

Peace and books!
