Picnic Potluck and a Movie!

Picnic Potluck time is here!  Friday May 10 at 6:30 we'll meet and eat.  At 7:00 p.m. we'll start the film.  It's ok to eat during the film, which runs about an hour, so we'll have some time for discussion afterwards.

Remember this is a PICNIC (even though we'll be indoors) so be sure to bring any serving equipment you need, and bring dishes that do NOT require heating or refrigeration.   This will be a challenge, but maybe we can all leave with some great ideas for our own heart-healthy picnics this summer!

Bring a list of the ingredients in your dish, or even the recipe - it helps people who have special food sensitivities, and it lets us all learn from each other!

Because this is our first potluck, here's a brief recap for food prep:
PREPARE a dish to serve at least 8-10 people.
INGREDIENTS should be PLANT BASED, WHOLE (unprocessed) FOOD.
NO OIL or oil based dressings, and MINIMAL use of fatty foods such as nuts, seeds and avocados.
Bring a LIST of ingredients (people with food sensitivities need to know).
BRING ALL SERVING EQUIPMENT your dish requires. Use small serving spoons!  We will provide plates, utensils, drinking water and cups.
A dish is preferred, but if you cannot bring food, please be prepared to contribute what you can to help cover Meetup expenses.
(Even if you bring a dish, your contributions help keep this Meetup going!)

ABOUT THE FILM, THE PLEASURE TRAP, WITH DR. DOUG LISLE
Dr. Lisle is a behavioral psychologist whose teaching venues include the Cornell University Plant Based Nutrition course, Living Light (the leading raw culinary school), Dr. McDougall's Health and Medical Center and True North Health Center. In a fact-filled but humorous presentation explaining the neural pathways involved, THE PLEASURE TRAP shows why - even when we KNOW what we need to eat -- we may be drawn to foods that may not support good health. Dr. Lisle explains this clearly, and also shares some strategies for breaking out of The Pleasure Trap!

It will be wonderful to see you all!

I added some info about this in the meetup description! This exercise should help as we make summer party/picnic plans!

"Plant Based" only...?? Aside from veggies, what would you like?

    April 11, 2013

    • Joan

Yes, the whole idea of Dr. Esselstyn's program on which this meetup is based is a plant based whole food diet. I added some ideas on the meetup page, including a link to Dr. McDougall's recipe index which will have some ideas. The idea is to make some dishes that would be good for a picnic!
