• Crokinole Night plus Molkky -- Indoors / Outdoors

    Dundas Eat + Drink

Join us for two classic dexterity games at Dundas Eat + Drink this Thursday! We'll have Crokinole boards on some tables, and we'll have Mollky outside in the park immediately behind Dundas Eat + Drink. Don't know these games? Then you've been missing out... Crokinole is a vintage Canadian board game (circa 1860), which is like a table-top version of curling with elements of shuffleboard and snooker. If you can flick a finger and can see out of at least one eye, you can pick up this game in no time. For a good, concise account of Crokinole (of its history and how to play), see the Toronto Star piece on our game night meetup in NYC: https://www.thestar.com/news/insight/2015/07/26/crokinole-gains-a-following-in-brooklyn-thanks-to-canadian-expat.html Mollky is a Finnish game with roots in an older Swedish game (Kuub) -- each could be considered a Viking form of bowling (played with sticks instead of balls). If you know the French game of Petanque or the Italian game of Bocce, then you'll get this game right away. If you don't know any of these games, just come along and try it. It's dead easy to pick up. Prizes (in the form of bar tabs) for anyone who beats the house! Depending on numbers, we may run a fun and free tournament on the night. Bar tab prizes for the winners and runners-up.

  • Ball Hockey (Thursdays) [QE Park]

    QE Park Basketball Courts

    CA$2.00

This is a weekly pick-up ball hockey game, open to everyone who is 18+. I'll bring the balls and some extra sticks. Goals are there already. If you're a goalie, you're especially welcome! If no goalies come, then we'll play a version of good old-fashioned street hockey (with small targets or slots). If you don't have a stick, let us know and we'll make sure to bring enough spares. We recommend gloves (even if they're just gardeners gloves) and shin-guards (soccer ones will do if you don't have hockey shins). Helmets are always a good idea too, even though most don't wear them. There's a small fee for this pick-up: Just $2, all of which goes to The Soccer Project Foundation. The SPF helps local, under-served youth to play organized sports (not just soccer but hockey and other sports too). The emphasis is on chill attitudes. Any agro at all and a player will be shown the exit and not welcomed back. Fun, friendly, good times only! • What to bring Hockey stick. Shin guards, gloves and helmet are highly recommended but not required. If you're a goalie, bring your equipment!

  • Soccer (Fridays) [Downtown]

    Andy Livingstone Park

    CA$2.00

    • What we'll do: This is a weekly soccer pick-up session, which is open to all adults (18+). All skill levels welcome. We'll play short-sided soccer most days. If the numbers make sense for 11v11 and people want to play some full-field footy, then we'll do it. Proper goals provided, freshly washed bibs/pinnies too. And only top-quality balls used (e.g., EPL match balls, not replicas). PLEASE NOTE: If you'd like to donate more than the session's per-player fee (just $2), 100% of it will go to our non-profit arm: The Soccer Project Foundation, which helps under-served youth to participate in organized sports. • What to bring: Rubber-studded boots (no cleats please) or indoor soccer shoes. • Important to know: Proceeds from this pick-up go to The Soccer Project Foundation.

  • Basketball (Saturdays) [QE Park]

    QE Park Basketball Courts

    CA$2.00

This is a classic drop-in b-ball game for all levels. Depending on numbers, we'll play half- or full-court. If we've enough people, we'll play a round-robin. We'll bring the bibs. We'll have at least one top-notch ball. Please bring a small donation if you like -- we use all donations to support The Soccer Project Foundation, which helps local, under-served youth play organized sports (not just soccer but b-ball too).

  • Soccer (Sundays) [Point Grey High School Turf Field]

    Kerrisdale Park

    CA$2.00

This is a weekly soccer pick-up session, which is open to all adults (18+). All skill levels welcome. We'll play short-sided (5v5 to 8v8) games over a two-hour period at this turf pitch. If numbers are 18 or greater, we'll run a mini-tournament (self-refereed) and offer bar-tab prizes for the winner. Pop-up goals provided, freshly washed bibs/pinnies too. And only top-quality balls used (e.g., Fifa-quality and Fifa-approved balls). PLEASE NOTE: If you'd like to donate more than the session's per-player fee (just $2), 100% of it will go to our non-profit arm: The Soccer Project Foundation, which helps under-served youth to participate in organized sports. • What to bring: Rubber-studded boots or plastic moulded cleats (no plastic blades or metal cleats). Indoor soccer shoes work well on this surface, so long as it isn't wet. • Important to know: Proceeds from this pick-up go to The Soccer Project Foundation.

  • Touch Rugby [Sundays] [Kerrisdale]

    Kerrisdale Park

    CA$2.00

    • What we'll do: This is a weekly Touch Rugby pick-up session, which is open to all adults (18+). These sessions occur on a field for which we have a permit. So it's a guaranteed event. This also means we have to charge a small fee to cover permit and insurance costs. If you'd like to donate more than the session fee (just $2) when you play, 100% of it will go to our non-profit arm: The Soccer Project Foundation, which helps under-served youth to play organized sports (not just soccer but rugby and several other sports as well). We'll start each session with an easy warm-up, perhaps run a few drills that will especially help those new to the sport. Then we'll form balanced teams and launch into some friendly, competitive games. Ideally, each week will see enough people to form three or four teams, so that we can have a fun round-robin tournament. Please note: this is not the lame warm-up version of touch rugby that many 15s clubs play at the start of practice. We play by International Federation Touch rules. This code of the game is super fast, fierce and safe. And it's easy to learn. From time to time, we may also play Australia's newest code of rugby, called Turbo Touch. If you don't know it, look it up! Playing it is much better than watching it -- just like every other code! Post-match socials (at a local pub) will be a feature of this group as well... • What to bring: Running shoes, cross trainers, or rubber studded boots (no cleats please). • Important to know: Proceeds from this pick-up go to The Soccer Project Foundation.
