London Playtest meetup

The August Meetup will be on Sunday 18th August from 1pm to 8pm.

If you've designed a game, bring it along and give it a play or just enjoy playing other people's prototypes in a friendly and constructive atmosphere.

If you would like to bring along a new design, contact Rob Harris (Organiser) and we will add your game to the list.

Deadline for pre-registering games is 11:59pm on Friday 16th August. Be sure to include the name of the game, the amount of players, the expected duration and a brief description. If you bring more than one design, add a preference for which one you would like to show first. Please feel free to still bring extra prototypes on the day. They will be added to later playtesting rounds.

(Please note that as a condition of our use of the Jugged Hare, only food and drink bought at the pub can be consumed on the premises.)

You can follow the group's blog at www.playtest.co.uk

Eiman - it was a pleasure to meet you and your children. Your daughter's comments on Clowns have been most helpful to me for providing focus

It was excellent. Much better organised and attended that in my wildest expectations.

I enjoyed looking at your game, Carlos. Please do ask me again when you have the rules streamlined a bit more. The theme is right up my street.

Thanks again to all of the designers and playtesters who came to the Playtest London August meetup yesterday. If you would like to add any further comments there is a BoardGameGeek geeklist, which lists all of the prototypes played at each monthly playtesting session.

Thanks especially to Mike, Carlos, Chris and Sean for playtesting Chocolate Trader. A few little tweaks, like making Bonus tokens a bit clearer may still be needed.
eg. Renaming Purchase to Purchase &Produce
    Produce to Production bonus Tweaks:
Endgame use for all bonus tokens (eg money on each not used) Additional market type
No "Close the market" option which fell into abuse. :)

    Great as always

    1 · August 19, 2013

Just a quick reminder that the deadline for pre-registering games for this meetup is Friday midnight. You are welcome to bring unregistered prototypes, but those listed will have priority when it comes to scheduling the playtesting rounds.

    See you on Sunday.

    August 16, 2013

  • Eiman M.

Speaking of children i may have to bring both of mine. 5 & 8. You may be in luck tessa! Is that ok Rob?

    1 · August 16, 2013

    • Rob H.

That's fine. We have much to learn from our younger playtesters. There will probably be prototypes for other kid's games as well, so we should be able to keep them entertained. Cheers, Rob

      August 16, 2013

  • Tessa K.

Hello, I am thinking of bringing the prototype of my card game which can be played by either kids or adults but I was wondering if anyone could possibly bring one of their children along? Preferably age 6-10?

    1 · August 16, 2013

    • Rob H.

Hi Tessa. You are welcome to bring your game. Please could you give me some more details about it, ie the duration and amount of players, so i can fit you into the schedule. Thanks, Rob

      August 16, 2013

  • Matthew D.

    Hi Rob,

I'll be bringing (in order of priority):

    2. Crackpots (2-4 players, 60-75 mins, co-design with Brett Gilbert) - drafting and and engine building game

    3. Trinity (2-5 players, 60-90 mins, co-design with Brett Gilbert) - ste collection and variable card power game

Thanks again for everything you do in organising these meetups!

    1 · August 14, 2013

Added to the list. Really enjoyed trying Crakpots last weekend. Lots of potential. Cheers, Rob

      August 16, 2013

  • Andrew R.

I'll have the next radically revised iteration of Cursed Temple (3-4 players, 30 minutes, sneaky queue manipulation), and the almost-certainly-finished-for-now version of Dexikon (3-4 players, 50 minutes, deck-building spelling game)

    1 · August 13, 2013

    • Rob H.

Added to the list. Another good prototype from the weekend at NineWorlds. Looking forward to seeing how this has changed. Cheers, Rob

      August 13, 2013

  • Chris T.

I will have (revised) version of Cricket Deck Building (post Nine Worlds)

    1 · August 13, 2013

    • Rob H.

Added to the list. I really enjoyed playing this over the weekend and seeing how much it has evolved. Deck-building really simulates the feel of the game.

      August 13, 2013

  • Carlos Moreno S.

I'll be there from 1pm. I´ll bring Robofactory and maybe Guilds of Florence.

    1 · August 5, 2013

    • Rob H.

Welcome to Playtest UK, Carlos. Your prototypes have been added to the provisional list. Cheers, Rob

      August 5, 2013

    • Ben

Hm "Mystery Prototype" sounds like a great name for a game...

      August 13, 2013

  • Mo H.

I'm expecting to bring Monster Mash, which is the hand-management microgame formerly known as Hands Up! but now themed around collecting teams of monsters.
Around 30 mins, 2-4 players (ideally I'd like 3-4 if poss).

    1 · August 6, 2013

    • Mo H.

Change of plan: this needs a bit more work I think. Instead I'll bring the new version of Caterwaul (30 mins, 2 players, battling tribes of cats).

      1 · August 13, 2013

    • Rob H.

      List updated.

      1 · August 13, 2013

  • Ben

I AM bringing something, but I haven't decided which. What I can say, is it will be about 90 minutes.

    August 12, 2013

    • Rob H.

      Added to the list.

      August 13, 2013

  • Andrew B.

I am planning to get along this time and want to play any of the following:

'Send in the Clowns' = two games in one! Same cards but two sets of rules, one for youngish kids 'match the garments'; the other a card management game for adults. Which is better? (Half an hour per game = 1 hour).

'Deckchairs' (new game) = tile laying race to claim the custom of passing families on your sunny beach. But watch out for unscrupulous rivals removing your deckchairs! (1 hour).

'Hold the front page' = newspaper industry game in which you race to complete pages of your newspaper. I want to playtest some small variations in the rules, as this design nears completion (1.5 - 2 hours)

    1 · July 29, 2013

    • Andrew B.

Ooops! I always forget something ... Deckchairs is 2-4; HtFP is 2-6, Clowns is actually 2-6. Would like to play with at least 3-4 in each instance (preferably 4)

      July 29, 2013

    • Rob H.

      Updated.

Likewise - in fact, my Deckchairs game was conceived while lying on a deckchair in Turkey.

Hope to bring just one game. The new "Chocolate Trader", Chocolate factory LT 30-40 mins 3-4 players.
Look forward to trying out all the other games people bring
