Newcastle Playtest meetup

Ever designed a game and wanted to see how it plays? Enjoy playing games and being creative? Do you know what makes a game fun? Don't leave your game ideas sitting on the shelf gathering dust; show them off at the first Newcastle Playtest meetup and get feedback direct from the players.

We are a friendly group of board/card game designers who are creating a regular playtesting event on the first Tuesday of the month at The Bridge Hotel in Newcastle (NE1 1RQ right next to the castle keep).

Everyone is welcome to join us and bring along their own designs or settle down to play and give their opinion. We look forward to welcoming you at the meetup!

    Hiya all,

How do people feel about meeting twice a month? Say 1st and 3rd Tuesdays? If people are up for it, I'll clear it with the pub and set up one for the 17th.

    Cheers,

    Jack

Hi, this sounds great for me as well :-) I can come on Tuesday 17th

That sounds like enough of a quorum to me :) I'll run it by Derek at the Bridge and then set up the event...

Folks, two things I absolutely forgot to mention the other night.

The first was the reason I had to dash - I'm preparing for the launch of the Newcastle Science Comic on Saturday, which i'm one of the editors of and Alex also had a not insubstantial hand in the creation of. Me and Alex have a number of comics in there and have created a nice little topology puzzle for it too. If you like comics, you might want to pop along to the central library to pick up a copy.

The second thing, and most relevant to this group:

Britt is the host of the Make and Mend, and on the 21st the market is in the Star and Shadow Cinema. One of the things we thought might be interesting for folks who make and mend things is a Boardgame Jam.

So i've been scouring second hand shops for boards and pieces and such things as might be useful in making boardgames from scratch (story dice to generate themes, etc) Not yet figured out the structure of the day yet, but if anyone here's interested in taking part or even helping me organise or figuring out what's what, that would be cool :-)

This sounds fantastic. Unfortunately I'm away until October now on my hols but I otherwise I'd definitely be there. Was speaking to Mike from Travelling Man about the science comic as well, it looks great. Please let me know about this stuff if any more comes up!

I enjoyed it the most this play. It seemed to feel more fluid. Work needs to be done with the market and food specialisations but the core mechanisms seem good!

I've only seen The Fat Duck from across the table, need to play it next time.

Gents - sorry I had to nip off pretty early this week, I'll be out for the fuller duration next one. I think the basic problem with Kick Punch Stomp was well known last month, but the solution just fell into place this evening. Thanks Daniel. Samizdat seemed to be playing well when I left. Associating the helpers with the districts really works. Catch you next time folks.

Not to worry Paul, I really enjoyed the break through with Kick Punch Stomp. Lots of possibilities there and it felt like a real time fight!

Glad you liked Samizdat as well. It wasn't perfect, some issues came up later but the 'helpers' system did seem to encourage more interaction in the city.

    Hopefully next month!

Hey folks - i'm still up for this one. Everyone else?

I'll be there! I'll be at the pub from 6:30, at the table booked for last month's.

Me too! I should be at the pub at 7 or 7:30.

Sadly, I can't make this one as I'll be in York staying with friends and gaming :)
