What is your earliest gaming memory?

I started designing Simple games when I was 7. Anything from making up rules for toy soldier games to drawing cards and writing role play adventures. Played canasta in family and chess when I was 6. I now find chess a little predictive, and prefer games with a theme or story. An early memorable game was "Kings and things", followed by Classic Risk and RoboRally, and Space Hulk. I played some very first editions of Magic the Gathering, and competed in competitions, before I felt it was becoming too commercial. I much prefer lesser known games where no player is already an expert.

Is there a favourite game you like to play?

I am a big fan of Sci fi themed games, Specifically XXXX games such as Twilight Imperium, Galactic Emperor. I enjoy trading, resource management games such as Settlers, Agricola and other Euro games. However I do enjoy games with some degree of conflict, (Memoir 44 is pretty good) and I'm rather sick of the Victory pt tracks around the board on almost every Eurogame. With my friends I play Space Armada, TriRealm, Tribes of the Valley, Shrek Quest, Hero wars, and Escalate on a regular basis, often to try out new elements, but also just for fun. I am hoping to publish some card and boardgames in the near future, starting with UK Games Expo in May and maybe at Essen in October2012.

What most interests you about the group?

The possibility of testing games with other like minded people. I dont want to just use the group to test out my own games, but I'd like to contribute positively to help others improve their own designs. I am serious about publishing some of my games and testing with critical and honest people is essential for the games development and optimisation. I have already learnt a lot from this group.

I enjoy designing and improving tactical games cardgames and Eurogames. I love trying out all new games and Game concepts, and discovering ways to improve them.

What Lawrence is saying about this Meetup Group

Another really good playtest of the new 4 player Fighting Lord of the realm. Got some useful feedback!
