What we're about

The Podcast Brunch Club ( http://podcastbrunchclub.com/ ) is a group designed for those who enjoy podcasts and want to get together to discuss about what they've listened. It's like a book club, but for podcasts!

Since July 2017, Podcast Brunch Club (PBC) Hong Kong has been bringing podcast listeners together to unplug and meet each other face-to-face in cafes on the Hong Kong island. The topic and podcasts for each month is different. You can go to the website ( http://podcastbrunchclub.com/ ), or join the Facebook group ( https://www.facebook.com/groups/podcastbrunchclub/ ) for the latest list. Before we meet, every member would listen the designated podcasts on the monthly theme, and we will discuss them at our meeting. The conversations are in English. We also love sharing other podcast recommendations, as well as books, movies and more--especially on the theme.

Happy listening!

Podcast Brunch Club Movie Edition - Don't Look Up

Online event

Note: this event is like a book club, so we watch the movie before coming to the event.

This time we will be discussing Don't Look Up, a Netflix movie from 2021.

According to https://www.rottentomatoes.com/m/dont_look_up_2021:

Kate Dibiasky (Jennifer Lawrence), an astronomy grad student, and her professor Dr. Randall Mindy (Leonardo DiCaprio) make an astounding discovery of a comet orbiting within the solar system. The problem: it's on a direct collision course with Earth. The other problem? No one really seems to care. Turns out warning mankind about a planet-killer the size of Mount Everest is an inconvenient fact to navigate. With the help of Dr. Oglethorpe (Rob Morgan), Kate and Randall embark on a media tour that takes them from the office of an indifferent President Orlean (Meryl Streep) and her sycophantic son and Chief of Staff, Jason (Jonah Hill), to the airwaves of The Daily Rip, an upbeat morning show hosted by Brie (Cate Blanchett) and Jack (Tyler Perry). With only six months until the comet makes impact, managing the 24-hour news cycle and gaining the attention of the social media obsessed public before it's too late proves shockingly comical -- what will it take to get the world to just look up?!

According to https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Don't_Look_Up:

It received four nominations at the 79th Golden Globe Awards, including Best Picture – Musical or Comedy, and six at the 27th Critics' Choice Awards, including Best Picture. Don't Look Up set a new record for the most viewing hours in a single week on Netflix, and went on to become the second-watched film on Netflix within 28 days of release.
