For this poetry discussion we'll be reading and discussing various poems (listed below) by John Donne, an English poet and writer living 1572 - 1631.
His early works were often sensual, erotic and even bawdy, a fascinating contrast to his later and more famous poems which are more religious and visionary.
He writes with a lovely rich language and imagery, and is well worth getting to know a bit :)
We'll be focusing on these following poems (which you can easily just read and/or print off online), but feel free to bring along anything else you like by him:
- The Good-Morrow
- The Flea
- To His Mistress Going to Bed
- Holy Sonnets: Batter my heart, three-person'd God
- A Hymn to God the Father
Looking forward to meeting you there.
If you can, bring along a text of the poems.... either printed or in a book, or just from your phone, as it's nice to read along. No worries though if you can't get your hands on something.
