Polyglot Reading Group [no rsvps here & have to read to attend]

Next paper: "The Influence of Organizational Structure On Software Quality: An Empirical Case Study"

Our aim is to learn together. We want to strengthen and broaden our understanding of the theoretical and engineering underpinnings of our field.  Every second week, we read and then discuss papers related to computer science or software engineering.

For each session we read the paper individually beforehand and then discuss it as a group. You must read the paper before attending. At the end of each session, those present choose the next paper.

The topic range is broad. So far we've sampled from information theory, distributed systems, machine learning, file systems, randomized testing, various formalisms of computation, a bit of category theory, and far-reaching papers such as Out of the Tar-Pit.

The papers are occasionally math heavy but you don't need a math degree to participate. We usually have someone more experienced guide the rest of us through the equations. They all require at least intermediate programming and systems knowledge to follow.

We typically have between 10 and 20 attendees.

DO NOT RSVP HERE. For the time-being, RSVPs and all online discussion (which we try to keep minimal) are handled via google plus at The paper selections are also listed there.

If you have any questions, please join the google plus group and ask there. is similar to what we're doing, although, their focus is on presentations and ours is on group discussion.
