June in Portland means Pedalpalooza — so instead of the usual presentation, let's ride bikes! Pedalpalooza (pedalpalooza.org) is an annual bike fun festival, with hundreds of volunteer-organized free events open to the general public. We're partnering with BikeLoudPDX to host the 2nd Annual Adaptive Bikes, Trikes, and Tandems Ride.
This ride celebrates and promotes the concept that cycling is for everyone. Whether you are a person with a physical or intellectual disability, someone with an interest in different bicycle types, someone who benefits from cycling with an adaptive bike, or a friend and advocate of adaptive cycling, you are welcome on this ride. This ride is for all individuals, all ages, and all bicycle types.
We'll meet at 10:30 AM and depart at 11:00 AM. Ride will be about 6 miles, at a casual no-drop pace set by ride participants. Not a loop, but the end point will be within 1 mile of the starting point. We'll finish up with time to catch Grilled by Bike and the Wedding Ride in Ladd Circle at 2:00 PM.
If you would like to ride but don't have your own bike, check out the Adaptive Biketown rental program! If you are renting a bike, reservations are strongly recommended. See adaptivebiketown.com for details or contact us with questions.
This ride is co-sponsored by BikeLoudPDX (bikeloudpdx.org), a Portland-focused cycling advocacy group. BikeLoudPDX's goal is to empower Portlanders to create safer streets via grassroots advocacy campaigns.
Shift (shift2bikes.org) is the organizing force behind Pedalpalooza. It also coordinates fun bicycling events throughout the year. Shift's mission is to demonstrate that bicycling is fun, liberating, empowering, sustainable, and environmentally friendly.
