What we're about
On Wednesdays we have a drum circle, which incorporates singing and dancing. And on Fridays we do circlesinging, a "drum circle for singers'.
The drum circle is for African, Latin and Middle Eastern drumming. Some drums provided. Beginners welcome. Singers and dancers especially welcome! Not a drumming class, but there will be some guidance. Carpeted room, not too echo-y. A PA will be provided for quieter instruments and vocals.
Circlesinging is a spontaneous, improvisational community-singing experience, a little bit like a “drum circle” for singers. In a circlesong, a leader starts by improvising a wordless line of music and teaches it to one part of the circle. The leader then develops a second part that goes with the first and gives that part to another section of the circle. Soon we are singing a four part (at least) chorus that has never been sung before. This chorus can support individual solos. Some circlesongs have co-leaders, and sometimes everyone improvises their own part. Each circle is unique, created by a spontaneously collaborating community.
When people make music together, magic happens. You don't have to have experience, or be "good." You don't have to have anything prepared. This is a “mistake-free” zone, for all levels.
