What we're about

Come and join me, Sophie (a French native), and have fun while practising/improving
your French. Let's share in French about wine, cheese, books, music... Or if you have an upcoming trip planned to France I'd love to suggest tips and places to see!
A bientôt!

French Conversation - Club Cinéma

Online event

<< NOTE: You must RSVP in advance via the 'Attend' button in order to see the Zoom meeting link. >>

Sophie, a French native, invites you to connect and share our love for the language and the culture.

We typically discuss TWO films. Please watch the films BEFORE we gather. You can see them on your preferred streaming service.

Laurence Anyways (2012)

Other ways to watch: https://www.justwatch.com/us/search?q=laurence%20anyways
Awards, reviews and info: https://www.imdb.com/title/tt1650048/
"The movie highlights ten years in the life of a literature teacher named Laurence who transforms himself into a woman after years of concealing his feelings. Her tremulous relationship with her family is further complicated by revealing herself to them while she struggles to find comfort with her significant other Frédérique. Though others may not initially accept or understand Laurence in her true form, those who knew her before her transformation still know her as Laurence, anyways."

Thérèse (2012) Thérèse Desqueyroux
Watch on Tubi: https://tubitv.com/movies/500339/th-r-se-english-subtitled
Other ways to watch: https://www.justwatch.com/us/movie/therese-2012
Awards, reviews and info: https://www.imdb.com/title/tt1654829/
"'Thérèse Desqueyroux' is a French drama set in the 1920s in which Thérèse is content to play the iconoclast in her stuffy husband's rich and powerful family. But when her best friend (also her sister-in-law) describes her passionate relationship with an attractive young Portuguese man, Thérèse's emotions take a more sinister turn."

Like all of our previous gatherings, we will have great conversations and meet amazing people. Feel free to share personal stories that relate to the film based on your life experience, relationships, travels and dreams. This will be lots more fun than staying home alone and social distancing... guaranteed!

We will provide the teleconferencing service. Just BYOB... BYO snacks... and login from the comfort of your home or wherever you happen to be.

To fully enjoy the film discussion, you should have a fairly good level of French language skill. We hope to keep up the online film discussions often until the health crisis subsides and experts indicate that it is safe to engage in more in-person group activities.

We welcome your suggestions for films. Be sure to indicate which free streaming service we can use to view the film and the direct viewing link.

À bientôt!
