Back by popular demand! The 2014 Dressed to Kill Hike. And this year, for the first time ever, prizes will be awarded.
The rules are simple: Dress up in something completely inappropriate for hiking: A wedding dress, a tuxedo, a sports jacket, a club dress, a Cinderella ball gown, your nightgown (or her nightgown) ... yes, cross dressing is allowed. Finish your ensemble with a pair of hiking boots or trail shoes.
We will meet at the Pittock Mansion and take pictures in front of the mansion before we hike. We'll then take the Wildwood to Hoyt Aboretum ending above the visitor center before looping back to Pittock, where prizes will be awarded.
Why Pittock? Parking is free and Pittock isn't open until 11am. So there will be plenty of free parking. (The zoo now charges. I think it's around $6.50 for more than 2 hours.) And Pittock is a great spot for glamorous photos which we can take before getting sweaty and dirty. Henry and Georgiana Pittock were pretty snappy dressers themselves. They'll be smiling down on us.
First prize for best dressed will be the coveted and rare Flamingo Cup, a symbol of refined taste and style.
Winner to be determined by popular vote at the finish. There will be other prizes as well, so sign up now, because RSVPs are limited.
Distance will be about 6 miles with 800-900 feet overall elevation gain.
