- Select the Right Fish and Plants for Your Aquaponic System
Have you ever wondered what kind of fish and produce you can raise in an aquaponic system? Have you ever wanted to learn what kind of combination may work best for you? In this workshop, we will dive into what kind of plants and fish you can raise in aquaponic system and explore what kind of design considerations need to be factored in to create the perfect growing environment. We will cover: - Fish species that are ideal for aquaponic environments - What kind of plants do well in aquaponic systems as well what kind of aquaponic components are required to support them - Heating and cooling considerations to create an ideal growing environment - Design examples, best practices and real case study examples - Q&A session We'll be meeting at the Orchards Feed Mill in Vancouver, WA at 1:00 PM. There is a suggested contribution of $25 per person. Seating is on a first come, first serve basis. The event will take place in the barn next to the retail store.

We have tentatively arranged a tour date to visit Live Local Organic, a commercial aquaponics farm located in Milwaukie, OR (http://www.livelocalorganic.com). We will meet with Joel Kelly, CEO, and his team to tour their 10K square feet of commercial operation location in Milwaukie Oregon. Focusing on primarily basil and tilapia production, Live Local Organic that is a certified organic farm and supplies 71+ individual stores and 10+ retailers including Whole Foods and Safeway. Given that the Live Local Organic team will working to do this tour, we'll be limiting the tour to a select number of people. As of now, the tour max is limited to 25 people. There is a tour fee of $10 per person. This location is behind the Goodwill. Follow the road past the security gate (East side) and follow fence line to the end of the parking lot. Live Local Organic is in the corner across the way from the Dairyfarm trucks. Hope to see you there!

In this class we'll explore the pros and cons of different systems and share helpful tips (learned the hard way) to help save you time and money. We'll cover: - Selecting the right fish species and plant combination to support optimum growth using a shared temperature range - Aquaponic system design ideas that meet your needs and budget - Greenhouse selection, system insulation and other energy saving tips - Different heating and cooling options - Seasonal solutions and growing approaches - Q&A session There is a suggested $25 per person for this event.
