From the Maine Rock Gym Website:

Maine Rock Gym is a specially designed and highly controlled area that allows people of all ages to safely experience the sport of rock climbing and to take it to what ever level they desire. Our climbing facility is made up of many different walls, with more than 5,000 square feet of rock like textured climbing surface. These walls have thousands of (holds) which provide grips for hands and stances for feet. A rope goes to the top of the wall and through an anchor; this rope is attached to a climber and then comes down to a partner called a 'belayer' who pulls the slackening rope through a friction device. If the climber falls, the friction device allows the belayer to easily arrest the fall. This "top rope" protection provides a proven safe and fun climbing experience.

Indoor climbing is a great thrill and challenge for all ages and abilities! In addition to being just plain fun, the gym provides an excellent place to increase self-esteem, develop team building, communication and problem solving skills. I'm certain any participant in any of our climbing sessions would find their experience at our facility truly enjoyable and rewarding. Whatever your climbing goal we can get you there.

This was surprisingly fun, but exhausting until I figured out what the "numbers" on the walls meant. LOL. And after about an hour, WE WERE TIRED. Need some boys, 17-18 years-old.....BOLD

Great idea! Safety in numbers! As in, embarrass yourself to only a few watching you struggle and gasp. LOL. I had a blast, and can't wait to go back, now that I understand the ranking system of the climbs! Thanks so much, Colin!

i am soo psyched. i am in training for the "Tough Mountain Challenge" coming up in july, the 5 mile obstacle course that we will navigate going UP Sunday River ski slopes. videos from previous years show that on the course is a portable rock wall, for our "entertainment", and now it won't be the first time that i ever see one. maybe i will have an edge, and if my age group is for ages 50-51, i just might win.

They completely cleaned off the walls this week and put up all brand new routes for a competition on Saturday. It is still a work in progress, but they put up a lot of really fun and interesting routes so Sunday should be a great.

Hi Colin, see Lori's note below. Ha Ha I got approved to join the group at 12:57 but the RSVP closed at 1:00 with 1 spot still open. Timing was just too close. I'd still like to go so let me know if you open the RSVP back up and I will take the last spot. I have notifications on so I should get an e-mail if you post back here I think. Thanks.

My friend Derek would like the last spot, but he's awaiting approval to join. Can you hold it until he's official? Thanks....
