Sunday Brunch at Timberline Lodge!

White linen tablecloths, a bodaciously bountiful buffet brunch (too much alliteration?), good company, and a view of of the wilderness - what more could you want? Besides, where else are you going to be able to eat this well at 6,000 feet? No, this is not my normal, difficult to extreme hike. Yeah, it's pretty much on the other end of the spectrum -- not really a hike at all....  ;-0

We'll carpool from the Gateway Park and Ride up to the Timberline lodge parking lot, "hike" up to the lodge (hey, this is the outdoor adventure group -- we have to do SOMETHING "outdoors"), have a great brunch, and maybe take a stroll around the grounds afterwards to settle our stomachs for the drive back. Feel free to dress well for this event or you can just go with your regular clothes. I'm planning on wearing a little nicer than hiking gear. ;-))

Timberline lodge has buffet brunch! Who knew?? Cascade Dining Room - Casual by day, romantic by night—fine dining always. Named one of the top ten mountaintop restaurants in the Western United States and Canada by Sunset magazine. Renowned for an award-winning wine list and exquisite dishes prepared with only the finest Northwest ingredients. Yeah, OK, so I copied the marketing blurb - so shoot me.

Here's the link to their website: http://www.timberlinelodge.com/visit/dining-2/restaurants-bars/cascade-dining-room/

A pioneering spirit of craftsmanship paired with a deep-rooted connection to the environment and seasons inspires Timberline’s culinary program. Timberline is at the center of Oregon’s bounty, surrounded by mountain streams and a plentiful ocean teaming with fish, rolling fields of fresh and organic produce, locally raised beef and lamb; all tended by artisan producers with a common goal. Chef Jason Stoller Smith and Timberline’s talented culinary brigade share this vision, and invite you to “Taste Oregon”.

Cost: is $19.50 ($5 cheaper if you have a lift ticket or season pass). As we'll have a big group, plan on them including an 18% gratuity for a rough total of (bring CASH!) ~$23.

You can drive up on your own and meet us there, or meet us at Gateway Park and Ride and we'll carpool/caravan to the highest altitude brunch in the state.

So come, get your fill in the gorgeous lodge that is a National  Historic landmark and maybe take a little walk before to whet your appetite or afterwards to settle  your meal.

NOTE: If there is a phenomenal response, I'll talk to the restaurant about opening up more spots. If this event is full and you'd really like to go, please put yourself on the waitlist and send me an e-mail.

Carpooling to Trail head: We'll form carpools at the Gateway parking garage where we meet before the hike.  If you prefer to carpool with others to Gateway or directly to Timberline, please feel free to use the comments section for this event to let people know and make arrangements. If you are going to meet us at Timberline, PLEASE let me know so I can make appropriate reservations for the correct number of people!

CARPOOLING: Flip the driver some bucks in appreciation for their time driving, use of the vehicle, gas, etc. Suggested mileage donation of 15 cents/mile/person or $12-$15 for the 110 mile round trip.  Exact change makes it easier to divide among our drivers. No one will be turned away for inability to contribute.

Additional Info for all hikes, from Joanne - organizer:

Everyone must agree to the Group's Liability Agreement/Waiver. Your profile must show that you have read and agreed and you will sign a paper copy at the start of the event. If you need to update your profile, there are step-by-step instructions on the Discussion board for this group - second message from the top.  People who sign up without the necessary agreement in their profile will be removed from the trip.

As always, please don't say 'yes' and then not show up. That's just bad manners. After all, your parents taught you better than that.

It was a perfect day to play tourist in the area, and eat with the group. Good idea! Thank you, Keith, for organizing. There were a number of us first-timers and it looked like everyone had a good time.

The forecast for Timberline Lodge for Sunday is sunny with a high of 69 degrees and a 14 mph breeze. PERFECT weather for brunch!!! There are still two spots available, so if you have a friend you'd like to bring along, have them sign up for the site (say yes to the RSVP and liability policies), and join us! It's going to be FUN!

I teach at Timberline and will be skiing in the early morning whether I am part of the group or not. The brunch is fabulous and can be healthy if you don't look at the deserts. I anyone would like to ski, let me know

Wow - We have a crew of 18!! GREAT! Are you excited, too?! While the weather forecast doesn't go out -quite- that far, the forecast for the entire week before is for sun and no chance of rain. Looks like we'll have great weather for our brunch "hike". ;-))
