What we're about

This group is for anyone who enjoys reading thrillers, action, suspense, or mystery books. We will assign a new book each month, then we will get together, have a beer possibly, and talk about the book. The things we liked and disliked. Both readers and audiobook listeners are welcome to join. I look forward to meeting you all. We will be probably moving locations monthly, so the same people don't have to commute the furthest each time.

First off, I changed the name from Portland Thriller/Suspense Book Club, and I'll explain why for full disclosure. Since 2015, I've been following a gentleman on Twitter, Ryan Steck (https://twitter.com/MitchRappFans), who runs a review site for the book genres I mentioned above. His site, The Real Book Spy (https://therealbookspy.com/) (@TheRealBookSpy (https://twitter.com/TheRealBookSpy)), is how I've gotten book recommendations for almost five years. I highly recommend you following him on social media. I can't recommend his site enough. I have become great friends with him, and we communicate frequently. That being said, he has also agreed to hook up our group with swag, signed books, etc.

Some of my personal favorite authors are:

• Vince Flynn

• Brad Thor

• Ben Coes

• Meg Gardiner

• C.J. Box

• Gayle Lynds

• Harlan Coben

• David Baldacci

• Gregg Hurwitz

• etc, etc, etc.

We will be reading a little of everything, and we'll make votes for the next book out of 5 or so that I pick.

Hillsdale Library – Multnomah County Library

Our next book for the book club will be THE FORCE by Don Winslow. It is one of the top books of the last couple years, and features a member of Manhattan Task Force, Denny Malone. We will be discussing THE FORCE by Don Winslow at our next meetup in October. Things you liked, things you disliked, characters, etc. Even if you don't finish it, you are more than welcome to join. Now that I'm getting more organized, we will also announce the November book club read at the next meeting as well. We will be switching from a newer thriller to classic thrillers every month. Also, anyone who finished TERM LIMITS is welcome to give their thoughts on the book. This is going to be at the same location, as the feedback was positive about having it in a library where you can hear each other, but starting in November, we will start switching libraries to allow easier access to others across the city. I look forward to seeing you again, or meeting you for the first time!
