Wauna Point

Wauna Point

DATE: April 20, 2013

TIME: Be at the carpool location by 8:15 for an 8:30 departure


TOTAL MILES: 10 miles

ESTIMATED HIKING TIME: 7-8 hours, depending on party size

ELEVATION GAIN: Approximately 3,250 vertical feet

Route Description: From the Tooth Rock parking lot, we will maintain a brisk pace up the road to the old Tanner Butte Trail Head, 1.9 miles.

From the TB Trail Head hike 2.3 miles to a turn-off descending an unmaintained trail to Wauna Point, 0.8 mile. Towards the bottom of this descent, we will take an "eyebrow" trail along a wall with a steep drop-off to the left  The trail then leads out along a ridge(some exposure) to Wauna Point, which is an airy ledge, with a spectacular view of the Gorge. We will return the via the Tanner Butte Trail. 10 miles round trip.


WEATHER FORECAST: A chance of showers. Mostly cloudy, with a high near 50.


PERMITS: US Forest Service Pass

$$$: Suggested donation for outing: $2.00.

CARPOOLING: RT mileage is approximately 88 miles; we suggest a mileage donation of 10 cents/mile/rider. Exact change is welcome.

Note-this is a carbon neutral outing, $.25/person from outings donation is used to offset carbon released for the trip.

Directions to Carpool: We will meet at the carpool site at the Marshall Center, 1009 East McLoughlin Blvd., Vancouver, WA. Park on the west side of the building, in the second row. There may be other cars in the lot, so be sure and write down my cell # below.

· Water (min 2 liters/person)

· Insulated sit pad

· Lunch and snacks.

· Water resistant hiking boots/shoes

· A water-resistant hat and gloves. Rain jacket and pants (even if sunny, ha, ha)

· Two or three layers of clothing that can be adjusted or removed as necessary

· Headlamp or flashlight

· Whistle

· Map

· Compass

· Matches (stored in a water tight container in addition to matches or a butane lighter)

· First aid supplies (be sure to include an extra day of any medication you are taking or might need
