Salmon Butte

Date: Saturday, June 22 8:15 am
Distance: 11.2 miles
Elevation Gain: 3170 feet
Peak Elevation: 4877 feet
Difficulty Level: Difficult
Approximate Hiking Time: 7-8 hours
Dogs: No
$$: Requested 2 dollar donation, plus carpool money of 10 cents/mile

Get in some practice for all those long hikes you know you want to do this summer. Plus. if we've timed this right, the rhodies on this mountain outside of yes, Rhododendron, (well, Zigzag) should be in their full glory. From the top, it is possible to have views of up to 8 volcanic peaks (weather permitting, and, admittedly, somewhat unlikely).

We will meet at 8:15 for an 8:30 departure from the Gateway Transit center, southeast corner. Please bring PLENTY of water, enough food, appropriate footwear, multiple layers of clothing (including raingear), sunscreen, 10 essentials, etc. If you have any questions about what to bring or about this hike, please contact Matthew Diamond by email or at[masked], cell[masked]-7908.

Thanks bonnie for the great photos. Excellent flower shots. Very rewarding hike. We saw 5 snowy peaks! Flowers almost all the way. Great company. 4 of us. Matthew is a very patient and fun leader. Looking forward to meeting all of you on trails again.

if you'd like to see more participants, consider cross posting on other meetups: portland hiking and nw wilderness are both very popular.

Matt, thanks for leading this. I'd love to go, especially because Zhong is signed up, but I'm scheduled to usher at PCS at 6:45 that night, so I'm afraid the timing would be too tight for me. For others considering it, check out http://nwhiker.com/MHNFHike45.html. This is the perfect time of year to do this hike.
