Join us at Shadow Bay Group Campsite at Waldo Lake!

Are you ready to become a Waldonian? This campout will introduce you to Waldo Lake and treat you to the wondrous attractions of Waldo and other wild lakes, old growth forests of Hemlock, Doug Fir and pine, a sky full of stars, and nature at its best. This Oregon treasure is in our own backyard, 3.25 hrs southeast of Portland.

We hope you’ll become as excited about preserving the area east and south of Waldo Lake as we are with our Keep Waldo Wild campaign to permanently protect about 76,000 acres here.

Our Shadow Bay Group Campsite will accommodate a good-sized group. Check-in Friday between 2-7 pm. We'll have orientation Friday night, sign-up for hikes, and briefly tell you about our Keep Waldo Wild campaign.

A variety of hikes are offered on Saturday and Sunday of varying distances and difficulty. Or plan your own day, bring your bike, boat or kayak (no motors allowed on the lake except electric motors in sailboats). There's a 22-mile trail around Waldo Lake you can explore. Enjoy the quiet, read a book alongside the lakefront. (Sierra Club accepts no liability for biking, swimming, boating or kayaking activities.)

We'll have campfires and enjoy a tasty Pot Luck dinner Saturday night  and learn a little of Waldo history.  Bring your tent or camper, your food and cooking supplies, binoculars, hiking boots, camera and trekking stick for hikes. Potable water onsite.

You'll find details on the Juniper Group web page Waldo Weekend Campout (link here). Go to the registration page here, scroll halfway down the page to sign up for this seriously fun, inspiring weekend!  Cost is $20 per person for the weekend.

Children are welcome to the campout, though most hikes will be too difficult for younger children.

A YES RSVP ON THIS MEETUP DOES NOT REGISTER YOU FOR THE CAMPOUT.  GO TO our “Waldo Weekend Campout” web page here for more information on the campout, and information on how to register here.  Scroll down half the page to the Reservation and Contact info forms, click RSVP NOW button.  $20 per person for the weekend.  Mail check to Juniper Group, c/o Environmental Center, 16 NW Kansas, Bend 97701.  Or pay online by credit card here.  (If you don't wish to receive emails from the Sierra Club, uncheck the box at end of card billing information.)

A note on Dogs: Dogs are also welcome to camp if trained and quiet. We ask you to tell us if you are bringing a dog so we can keep a running tally of how many dogs are coming, because too many dogs in strange surroundings can make it unpleasant for all. If you want to bring your dog on a hike, each trip leader will want to know about your dog’s training and experience before accepting it on a hike, and we may need to limit the number of dogs on any one hike for everyone's enjoyment and safety. Thanks for understanding.

I thought it was a wonderful weekend filled with energy, appreciation for wild forests and nature at its best, companionship and fellowship, and learning about what the Sierra Club is striving to accomplish in Waldo country.

Would like to bring hubby but he does not like tenting. Does anyone know a good place to rent a camper, or know anyone who would like to rent their camper for the weekend. Would love to try out a truck camper with pop up or stationary attached camper. Someday would consider buying one...
