General Outings Information: All participants on Sierra Club outings are required to sign a standard liability waiver.

If you would like to read the liability waiver before you choose to participate on an outing, contact the Outings department at (415)[masked] for a printed version.

You don’t have to be a member to participate!

Arrive with adequate food, water and clothing. If in doubt about your ability to complete a hike, please consult with the leader before the trip.

Field guides, snacks to share and humor are welcome.

Please leave your pet at home unless otherwise specified or with prior approval from the leader. Entertainment devices are discouraged. Firearms are prohibited.

Children under 18 must be accompanied by a parent or guardian.

Most day trips require no advance reservations unless “reservations required” or “group size limited” is indicated.

Participants are encouraged to contribute a small donation for the outing. These optional donations help the Group Outings Program to offer professional leaders’ training courses, carbon offset contributions, and other outings activities to strengthen and diversify Columbia Group outings.

Carpooling is encouraged. Riders traditionally share expenses with drivers depending on vehicle and number of riders.

See to find out how to get to the carpool location via mass transit.

Volunteer Needs:

September 2012 Sierra Singles Pub Night!

When: Friday, September 28, 2012, 5 p.m.

Where: Macadam’s Bar and Grill, 5833 SW Macadam Avenue, Portland, Oregon 97239

Summer will soon be over, but we can still enjoy the fruits, or in this case the hops, of the harvest season at Macadam’s Bar and Grill. We’ve been awarded our own private space in Macadam’s banquet room, where we can socialize and fill up on succulent victuals and libations. Their happy hours are from 3 to 6 p.m., so arrive early for the best prices.

For more information, take a gander at Macadam’s website,, or give them a jingle at[masked]-6227. Should you have additional questions, you’re welcome to contact pub night organizer Clay Spencer,[masked] or [address removed]. Hope to see you there!

Contact Dave Bybee at [address removed] if interested in hosting singles events.  The Singles Web page is

Gathering to remember the life of Roger Cole

Gathering time:  6:30 p.m., Thursday, Sept 20.

Location:  South side of Esther Short Park in Vancouver, near corner of Columbia and Sixth Streets, across from the Hilton.  For Portland folks, directions:  Cross I-5 bridge and take exit 1B. Take first left turn onto Sixth St, and go to the third light.  Meeting location is on your right, just past the intersection. Parking is available to your right, along the east side of Columbia Street, across from the park. You can also park in a lot a bit farther north on Columbia, on the left side of Columbia just before you get to Evergreen Blvd. This requires a short walk (saunter) back down to the park.

Purpose: To look at Roger's memorial bricks, which are located just to the right of the park's belltower, and remember Roger's years of service to Sierra Club and our environment.  The bricks were paid for through donations to Roger's memory after his death this past March.

Afterwards, we'll "saunter" a couple of blocks east to Tommy O's, at Washington and Eighth Streets, for refreshments and conversation.

All are invited.
